Who We Are:
Spartan Athletic Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization established to assist in providing support, both financially and otherwise, to the athletic programs at Mountain Brook Junior High (MBJH) and Mountain Brook High School (MBHS). SAF consists of approximately 100 Mountain Brook residents or supporters interested in helping support the athletic programs. The primary goal of MBSC is t
o make sure that the MBJH and MBHS athletes have what they need to compete at the highest levels and in a safe environment. History:
SAF was formed in 1998 as a non-profit corporation by a group of interested Mountain Brook parents and was originally named Mountain Brook Sports Corporation. Since then, our name has changed and we have grown significantly, but our focus remains the same - supporting the pursuit of excellence in Mountain Brook Athletics. What We Do:
SAF raises money to support ALL of the sports programs at MBJH and MBHS. SAF focuses on capital improvements and big ticket items that the school system typically cannot afford. SAF does not limit itself to simply capital improvements, however, and it works with the Athletic Director, school leadership, the School Board, and the coaches to provide support where needed. We also meet quarterly with the Athletic Director and the Coaches to get updates on the various sports and to hear about where help may be needed. SAF can also provide some assistance with communications between the coaches and the community. Why We Do This:
SAF exists primarily to try and eliminate the need to have a separate Booster Club for every athletic group. SAF provides the schools with one big booster club for all sports. Members can designate contributions to specific sports. This enables ALL of the coaches to have a source of support. Mostly, we do this because we love Mountain Brook schools and the athletic teams that are a part of the schools. To Date:
SAF assisted the MBHS football team with the construction and funding of the original football field house. Twenty years later, that project is still on SAF's radar, and SAF has lead the charge to assist the School Board with money to build the expanded field house. MBSC has also done the following: track resurfacing (TWICE); improvements to the baseball and soccer Fields; purchase of computer, safety and conditioning equipment for football, volleyball, softball, basketball, wrestling, baseball, soccer, track, tennis and golf. How to Help:
First, consider joining SAF. If you are interested, ask one of the coaches, or someone that may already be a member, and they can direct you as to how to join. Additionally, even if you do not join the SAF, you can help. SAF holds an annual Golf Tournament in May. Almost all of the coaches play in the golf tournament with SAF members and parents from the Mountain Brook community. We encourage all parents to participate in the Golf Tournament in some way. Flyers for the Golf Tournament are always available every Spring at Mountain Brook Sporting Goods in Crestline. Even in the Golf Tournament, funds raised can be designated by the donor for a particular sport.
