Holiday Hustle Day 11…Goodbye Knee Pain! At some point most of us have experienced knee pain. One of the most common is pain on the outside of the knee. It’s starts out as an uncomfortable and nagging pain that, left untreated, can become acute and debilitating. This is most often due to an overuse injury called IT Band Syndrome (ITBS). The iliotibial band is thick fibrous tissue that extends down the side of the leg from the top of the pelvis (iliac crest) through the thigh, over the knee joint and attaches to the top of the tibia (shinbone). The over-tightening of this tissue pulls at the connecting knee joint and can create misalignment & improper function of the knee resulting in pain. •⛑ 🏥 ⛑🏥•
A couple of home remedies to alleviate symptoms are use of a foam roller and IT band specific stretching. The video posted here shows how to deep stretch the IT band. Take note when watching that my right leg (bottom leg) is getting the IT band stretch while my left (top) leg is getting stretched through the hip & glutes. Also, by locking my right arm & lifting through the rib cage, my obliques above the IT Band are extended and thus further stretching the IT Band. It’s all connected, so it’s all important for a thorough stretch. 📌Save this post to practice this stretch on your own. ✏️ Let me know what other specific stretches to post that would help you alleviate pain or improve performance. 👌🏼✌🏼🤘🏼
