To all of my friends and those living in Lawrence and Barry county. The Missouri State Militia was first founded on September 2, 1982 and then reorganized around 2002. Governor Christopher Bond signed into law the Missouri State Militia in 1982 to have a volunteer State component to protect the borders of Missouri and to assist in emergencies throughout the State. We have done some great things since that time.
In 2011 we assisted Joplin after their horrific tornado and was the first to set up radio communications for first responders. Through the years we have help communities during flooding by helping to fill sand bags and building barries to hold out the flooding waters. We have helped an elderly church in Webb City by repairing rotting boards on the outside of their church and then painting the church for them. In December 2015 we were called to Preston, Mo to help in a search and rescue of a 69 year old women that went missing. We were very proud to be the people to find her when every other agency gave up the search for her. Although when we found her she was deceased, we gave her family the closure they were so desperately seeking. We have done countless other things over the years and look forward to helping our State in the future.
We are presently recruiting people from Lawrence and Barry Counties to form a B Company of the 3rd Battalion 8th Brigade. To be a member of the Missouri State Militia you do not need to be a military veteran. We have people from all walks of life that are members. All you need to be is a person with a passion and a compassinate heart to help your communty and those communities around you. We are strictly a volunteer organization.
If you have a heart and a desire to help people then we want you. If you have any question and would like more information please contact me at 417-316-1662. We will be planning a meet & greet in Mount Vernon in the very near future to meet people interested in the Missuori State Militia. I look forward to hearing from all those interested in becoming a member of the best community centered volunteer organization in the State of Missouri, in my opinion.
