This will be our last official post from Mount Vernon Taegeuk Martial Arts. We want to thank everyone for their support throughout the last few years and we wish everyone the best moving forward! As mentioned before, Master Cheak will still be involved in classes but he is taking time to focus on his family and cherish moments while he can. Instructor Wright will be taking over as school owner and lead instructor. Please give him the respect you would show Master Cheak. There are many events planned in 2026 and we are excited to watch everyone’s growth. Cheers to another year of martial arts!

Mondays high rank class rocked it!
❗️This Thursday is ONE class @ 6:00-7:00pm for all students followed by our final Hoorah as Taegeuk Martial Arts. Please join us after class to thank Master Cheak for his time dedicated to the school and everyone who has played apart in the journey. Starting January 1st the school will transfer to Mr. Wright under the new name “Strength & Honor Taekwondo.” We appreciate everyone’s support during this switch and we look forward to what next year will bring. Master Cheak will still be involved in classes and belt promotions. Please bring a dish to share Thursday and let’s have some fun! 🎉

Dedicated students who braved the snow tonight! Reminder that this Saturday we will have a make up class at 10:00am due to Tuesdays cancellation.

Due to the inclement weather that is supposed to start at 6:00 this evening, we will not be having class. We will have a makeup class on Saturday 12/13/25 at 10:00. If any of our younger students who haven’t tested yet can’t make it Saturday and still need help going over testing material, please call Master Cheak to schedule a lesson at 319-329-2275. Thank you and please stay safe in the weather!

Over the weekend Instructor Wright & Instructor Schmitt had the honor of training with Grand Master Wadley from Texas. He is highly knowledgeable and is passionate in educating the future leaders. Even as a black belt there is much to learn. Following they attended the USAMA Hall of Fame Banquet. Mr. Wright was awarded his instructor title and Ms. Schmitt was awarded the title of Jr. Master! Congratulations to them both, their hard work shows and we appreciate all they do for the school. 🥋

Get ready for some spooktacular fun at our Halloween Costume Class! 🥋🎃 Join Mount Vernon Taegeuk Martial Arts on Tuesday October 28th at 6:00 PM for a ghoulishly good time!

Kids and instructors, get your most creative (and kid-friendly!) costumes ready! We can't wait to see all the amazing outfits. Just a friendly reminder: let's keep the fake blood at home to keep our mats clean.

🍬 And what's Halloween without treats? We'll have some goodies for everyone to enjoy!

Congratulations to our two competitors today at the USAMA Tournament!

Mr. Schuttloffel placed 1st in forms, sparring & breaking. This was his first time competing in quite some time and he rocked it!

Ms. Schmitt placed 1st in forms, 1st in sparring and 3rd in breaking. She moved onto the adult black belt forms grand championship and made into the top 3. Ended the night winning the women’s black belt sparring grand championship.
