Hey all!

I was approached by the board of MVCFL - Mount Vernon C**t Football League and we discussed the option of combining leagues and what that would look like.

I am excited to announce that I have joined their board as “VP” of their flag football division that they have agreed to open up for kindergartners through 6th graders.

I am thrilled to be apart of a board with active members and likeminded people who want to help support growth and competitiveness when it comes to Mount Vernon football. Thanks for allowing me the opportunity to introduce your kids to the game.

The other game today pitted home team Professional Guidance Financial Services vs away team Cunningham Insurance.

PG Financial marched right down the field on their first possession, led by QB Paxton Strouse. After a couple of short receptions by Landon Ham, a pass from Strouse to Travis Burak netted a quick 6 points.

Cunningham Insurance was quick to answer, with Hudson Calkins running a sweep to the left and sprinting in for a 25 yard touchdown.

The rest of the first half was a defensive battle until the final snap before halftime. As PG Financial was driving down the field, they rushed to the line for one last play. Under heavy pressure, their QB forced a pass into coverage. The ball was intercepted and returned 40 yards for a defensive touchdown by Noah Lewis. Cunningham led 12-6 at halftime.

Calkins took over at QB for Cunningham on the first possession of the second half. He was able to throw a 20 yd strike to Lewis on a go route and outraced everyone to the end zone for an 18-6 lead.

A late interception by PG Financial gave them life, as it led to Burak’s second touchdown of the day. However, Cunningham was able to run the clock out on their final possession to finish off the victory.

Another awesome day by all. Learning, growing, and competing. Thanks to all!

Unfortunately, we had an issue toward the end of the games today that escalated to a point it never should have reached. I’m left feeling disappointed and embarrassed.

On a day where I post about pride and discipline, we are faced with a challenge on how to move forward. Discipline will be taught. Pride will be discussed. I refuse to allow a negative pull away from the positive. The league will grow stronger from this. The kids will learn lessons from this.

For parents and spectators, there will be a zero tolerance policy. Remember why we are doing this. All the volunteers, HIGH SCHOOL KIDS INCLUDED, are donating their time to better your kids, to teach them life lessons. We all need to be better.

More to come but I’m going to enjoy my Saturday and I hope the rest of you do the same. Thanks for your trust in me and the league.

Week 1 is in the books! It was sloppy, educational, hectic, awesome, and it was FUN! We will keep getting better each week at practice and compete on game days!

Cunningham Insurance won against Jersey Mike’s 18-6

Gavin Gorsuch scored the first touchdown of the season for Cunningham and Palmer Holton scored on a huge pass play from Lucas Scott for Mike’s lone touchdown on the day.

Valley Nutrition defeated PG Financial 46-12.

PG Financial battled while only having 4 players today and stayed in the ballgame for a long time. Landon Ham came away with a sick catch, while Jett Noland demanded a double team almost all day! Jake Hubbard’s passing attack and a couple interceptions returned for touchdowns for Valley Nutrition proved to be too much.
