MOUNT VERNON – Cornell national champion Isaac vanWestrienen has been selected the NCAA Division III Midwest Region Men's Track Athlete of the Year for the 2026 outdoor season by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

𝑴𝑰𝑫𝑾𝑬𝑺𝑻 𝑹𝑬𝑮𝑰𝑶𝑵 𝑻𝑹𝑨𝑪𝑲 𝑨𝑻𝑯𝑳𝑬𝑻𝑬 𝑶𝑭 𝑻𝑯𝑬 𝒀𝑬𝑨𝑹🏆

vanWestrienen won the 10,000 meters and finished runner-up in the 5000 meters at the 2026 NCAA DIII Outdoor Championships. He is ranked sixth in NCAA DIII history in both of those events: 28:51.50 from that winning effort at NCAAs; 13:53.13 from a runner-up finish at the WashU Distance Carnival in late March. vanWestrienen also starred at the MWC Outdoor Championships, scoring 30 points with victories in the 1500, 5000, and 10,000

Very cool moment! Joshua Schroeder, ‘05 Cornell College Alumni, had the honor to announce and call Isaac vanWestrienen up to the podium to receive his 10,000m national champion trophy!

Schroeder is currently the assistant commissioner for the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) and serves as the awards PA at NCAA DIII Track & Field National Championships!

LA CROSSE, Wis. – Cornell's Isaac vanWestrienen nearly accomplished the difficult distance double, taking runner-up in a battle with Lynchburg's Chasen Hunt Saturday afternoon in the men's 5000-meter run at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Veteran's Memorial Field.
