A little spotlight for someone who deserves the praise he probably thought I’d never give. A kid I have known pretty much since he was born but not getting to know him until middle school. Luca Russo, a kid who didn’t start off lighting the world on fire but a kid who had a fire burning in him. No matter the outcome this kid kept showing up day in and day out. Early mornings, late night. 100 degree days. Sometimes the only one in the room with Ray Miller on Sundays. He Fell in love with the sport and its entire grueling process. Someone who I have been extremely hard on since day 1. Sometimes giving him no love after loses.My only words would be telling him to wipe the look off his face and get back to work or get ready for the next match. It’s been a long road for my boy but I am proud of what he has become. Aside from turning that corner as a wrestler he’s now a leader. Holding himself and others accountable. His goals are written down and he’s on a mission to check them off. I’m excited for what his junior year will bring. Maybe a trip to boardwalk hall?

Fall is approaching so that means winter is around the corner!! If you’ve taken the summer off now is the time to get back into shape and prep for the winter season!!

Another NJ wrestling coach is being investigated on allegations of sexual misconduct with teenage girls.
Parents I urge you to stop trusting these men or women with your kids. No matter how well you think you know them or how great of a person they seem. If they don’t allow you to sit in on a private practice find a new coach. If they offer to pick your kid up and take them places by themselves find a new coach. Do not allow your child to be put into a situation where they feel vulnerable, can not defend themselves or put into a situation where they can’t not be seen or heard by their peers.

Talk with your kids. Let them know it is ok to speak up about uncomfortable situations they are put in or have seen themselves. Even if another person has told them about a situation they were in. Let them know it is ok to speak up. The secrets need to stop. This is how young lives are ruined. One incident can change a persons life forever.

We all need to work together to provide safe training facilities. If something doesn’t seem right. Say it. Even if it seems slightly awkward. Make it known that something is off.
