Late Score Costs Massanutten Mountaineers Against Bridgewater Reds

Massanutten Mountaineers stayed in it until the end, but Bridgewater Reds pulled away late in a 9-8 victory on Thursday at John W. Wayland Elementary School. The game was tied at eight in the bottom of the eighth when Mason Hamilton singled, scoring one run.
Bridgewater Reds rallied for the victory despite trailing 5-1 in the fourth.
Massanutten Mountaineers got on the board in the top of the first inning after Dylan Frazier doubled to center field, and Matt Atchley singled to center field, each scoring one run.
A double play extended the Massanutten Mountaineers lead to 3-1 in the top of the third inning.
Bridgewater Reds took the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning after Corbin Lucas singled to center field, Thomas Knight singled down the right field line, Peyton Lee singled down the right field line, Chris Huffman grounded into a fielder's choice, and Brett Tharp doubled to center field, each scoring one run.
Massanutten Mountaineers took the lead, 8-6, in the top of the sixth thanks to singles by Parker Kerns, and Frazier.
Bridgewater Reds took the lead in the bottom of the eighth inning after Tharp homered to left field, Evan Hamilton tripled, and Hamilton singled to center field, each scoring one run.
Garett McAlexander pitched four innings in relief for Massanutten Mountaineers. The right-handed pitcher allowed eight hits and five runs while, striking out four and walking one. Grayson Hoover led things off on the bump for Massanutten Mountaineers. The hurler surrendered two hits and one run (zero earned) over three innings, striking out three and walking three. Knight began the game for Bridgewater Reds. The starter gave up seven hits and five runs over four innings, striking out two and walking four.
Massanutten Mountaineers piled up 11 hits in the game. Frazier provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Massanutten Mountaineers with three runs batted in. The right-handed hitter went 3-for-4 on the day. Samuel Barber, Atchley, and Kerns each collected multiple hits for Massanutten Mountaineers. Massanutten Mountaineers had patience at the plate, collecting eight walks for the game. Barber and Nate Brookshire led the team with two free passes each. Massanutten Mountaineers turned two double plays in the game.
Bridgewater Reds accumulated 13 hits in the game. Tharp led Bridgewater Reds with two runs batted in from the number eight spot in the lineup. The center fielder went 3-for-3 on the day. Tharp, Hamilton, and Hamilton each collected three hits for Bridgewater Reds. Knight collected two hits for Bridgewater Reds in four at bats. Hamilton stole three bases. Bridgewater Reds stole five bases in the game. Bridgewater Reds turned two double plays in the game.
