I received an email directly from someone named "socalnewwaiver," who vilified the race for leaving 24+ full water bottles on the summit. It was also posted to Reddit and SoCal Hikers. I think it was a good decision on the part of the summit volunteers, after handing out water to as many hikers and runners as they could, to leave precious water there for hikers, instead of dumping it and carrying down more empty bottles. Socalnewwaiver also told me to take the race somewhere else. I think I would rather stimulate the nearby-local economy, including the Ski Lifts, with the tens of thousands of dollars spent to organize the race. I would like the other people, who have written anonymously with nasty language and threats, to keep perspective--24ish bottles of water on one day out of 365, from a race that uses 100% of the profit to benefit the entire Mt. Baldy community with programs; direct access to local government, forest service, sheriff's, CHP, and county fire; and nice annual donations to West Valley Search and Rescue, Mt. Baldy Fire Dept., the Mt. Baldy Scool PTA, the Mt. Baldy museum. By the way, West Valley and Mt. Baldy Fire are here for you too.

I hope that everyone who came up for the race had a good time. I heard that the mountain added to the challenge, with winds, rain and cold. But I got a sunburn at the Notch.

I was happy to learn from Search and Rescue this morning that nothing major was reported. Two runners needed to be warmed on the summit.

The photographer's GoPro on the summit ran for 20 minutes and then went kaput before Mr. Settles arrived, so there will be no summit photos; but your Devil's Backbone photos will be on the photographer's website. There's a weather station near the top of Mt. Baldy Rd. near the start line. (You can find it on the map on wunderground.com. Search Mount Baldy, CA) I checked the available data for the 5-year average temperature at the start line on Labor Day, and it's 66 degrees. Did you check the weather report for today? The high will be 66 degrees. Incredible!

Here's the updated race postcard, with a QR code. Please, everyone, share it with friends, family, clubs, coworkers, at the gym.... Also mention that registrants can get a 10% discount and you can be awarded $10 for the referral. BTW, the Ski Lifts will be offering a discounted lift ride down for runners. I'm just waiting for the code, and will get that to you ASAP.

Hello everyone. I need help with the overall awards this year. I need six unique, maybe custom-made, over the top, beautiful awards, but I have a small budget. The artist who made my all-time favorite--the stained glass ram, has retired. I can't find anything outstanding that's within the budget.
