Motor rigs have long been part of running the Colorado, but there’s more to these big boats than meets the eye. From rescue capabilities to making the river accessible to more people, they’ve played an important role on the river for decades.

An important part of any incident response is knowing when to call for outside assistance. While there are a variety of ways to make the outside call, making sure you know where the emergency comms device is kept and how to use them before heading out on the water should be part of every pre-trip checklist.

Quick tip: When leading a trip, always keep your group’s comms devices close at hand in case of emergency.
