It's going to be another hot one this week, friends. Trees are the bees knees when it comes to keeping things cool in urban areas, and that the cedar grove area of Idler's is ALWAYS at least 10 degrees cooler than ambient temp? Cool off with a stroll on the trails!

Heat doesn’t affect everyone equally. More than 97 million people face extreme heat in August alone. Many have received heat advisories or asked to stay indoors during this part of summer.

When facing dangerous heat, temperatures could feel as high as 115°F. This can be deadly, especially when communities don’t get relief from shade or overnight low temperatures.

What is our solution? Tree canopies and shade can help! Air temperatures directly under trees can be 20–45°F cooler than nearby unshaded areas. More broadly, trees can reduce surrounding air temperatures by up to about 9–10°F and can cool an entire city block by as much as 10°F. 🌳

🪵🪓FREE FIREWOOD ALERT!

Thank you to the awesome IDL crew for chopping and bucking up this monster pile of wood FOR YOU, the community! That's right, these lovely rounds of Douglas fir are free for the taking, first come, first served to warm your hearth this heating season. The pile is located on the small turnout along the main road.

We are so grateful for the amazing forest health work Idaho Department of Lands has been doing at Idler's this summer. And it's more than just a win for the forest: it's a huge win for the young men and women on the crew, who are using this project as real-world training.
