Is Karate Really Worth It? Honest Answers to What People Are Asking -
It turns out a lot of people are curious about karate, but they’re also skeptical...and it’s normal to have doubts.
I will be answering a different commonly asked question each day, over the coming week.
Here are some of the most common concerns and misconceptions we hear, and the honest truth behind them.
1. “There is a lot of yelling and strict discipline in karate, and I don't want to be taught by a drill sergeant.”
At Northwest Wado-ryu, we aren't that kind of dojo. Our goal is to build you up, not tear you down. We are here to help build your confidence in a safe environment where you feel comfortable and supported. While our karate training is structured, and we expect discipline and respect in classes, we know you have to show respect to receive it. We also know focus, discipline and respect are skills that take time to build up, which is why our instructors and leadership students have patience and lead by example.
Students learn to focus, follow directions, and control their bodies through consistency, practice, discipline and encouragement. There will occasionally be pushups, jumping jacks, or sit-ups, when a student needs a little extra push in the right direction, but you will not be learning in a strict, military setting.
