Pre- race evening . This weekend has been epic!! The race hasn’t even started!!

The journey begins…. We have packed up Janina and we are headed to Santa Barbara for the Santa Barbara to King harbor race on Friday.

Could be a long race - winds are looking pretty light in the channel and around Anacapa Island Friday evening.

If things go well in todays drive and launch, we will participate in a wet Wednesday race in Santa barbera tonight.

So this is pretty cool! A little origins story for Janina.

In summer of 1981 Janina raced in the Abaco Reggata in the Bahamas. At the time she was owned by Foster Clarke of Hope Town - Bahamas. 67 boats entered in this 9 day reggata sponsored by Mount Gay rum.

She was tied for first going into the final day of racing, but had her worst finish of the regatta finishing 10th and ended up losing to another Santa Cruz 27 “Sally” owned by William Pasco
IV of Newport Beach Ca.

Santa Cruz 27 National Class Association it’s pretty cool to think of all the amazing places SC27’s have raced. I’m sure many of you have some great stories.

The Ocean Fleet Ladies at the Helm was Saturday at Morro Bay Yacht Club. We had 5 boats on the line. 3 SC27’s -(Janina, Mistress Quickly, Gotcha) an Elliot 770 (Errant Belle) and a Catalina 38(Slider )

Bette D**e Jenkins on Errant Belle took the Early lead and never relinquished it. She had her whole family on board. Husband Tom, and kids Cole (17)and Paige(12)

The Santa Cruz 27’s battled it out for 2nd place exchanging positions many times in the 8 mile race. Gwenn Krossa (Janina) came into the leeward mark in 4th place and decided to split with the fleet on the 2nd windward leg by staying on the beach. It was the right call and coupled with her excellent driving she not only passed the sc27’s but she built an over 2 minute lead.

Gwenn’s crew Crew conisted of her son JT, husband John Krossa and friends Kacey and Krista.

Gotcha finished 3rd and Mistress Quickly 4th.

Even Race committee participated in Lady at the helm day. Judi Glover drove while her husband set marks from thier Grande Banks (Lady Mermaid)

Janina won the Zongo Cup!! Andrew Brown and Charlie Poggemann you have been replaced. Kacey Hass killed it on foredeck. And she came up with a new nickname for Lex Budge (Grandpappy!!!)
