Dear Karate Families,

It is with a heavily broken heart that I write you all today to let you know that Sensei Bryan passed away in the early hours of this morning.

Three weeks ago, he made the decision to go on comfort care (basically hospice) with the goal to keep him as pain-free as possible. Throughout the three weeks, he showed so much strength, resilience to the medication, was able to have great conversations, and, of course be his goofy self. It was such a comfort for me, our family, and friends to have that extra time with him.

I'd like to take a moment to thank everyone for all of your support, both before the cancer diagnosis and after. You made the last year a lot easier by sticking with us and the weird schedules that his treatment ended up requiring. Karate kept him going, and I know that you all meant so much to him.

There will be a celebration of life sometime in the next month or so. I don't really have any plans yet, just that I want it to be in the summer and at Cayucos Elementary. I'll keep you updated on that.

Attention Karate Families and Fans

It is with great sadness that we have to announce that after 20+ years of buisness, American Karate School is closed.

We will be holding a blowout sale at the school on April 25th and 26th from 10:00 to 4:00. All the proceeds will go towards Sensei's hospital bills and help the family with any other expenses.

There will also be a bake sale and Sensei Rick will be BBQing some hot dogs.

If your unable to come for the sale but would still like to help, please consider donating to either of the fundraisers.

We would like to thank you for all the memories, love and support over these 20+ years.

Hey Karate Fans,

Sensei Bryan is about 6 weeks into his recovery from surgery and has had ups and downs. He did have to go back to the hospital for a few days, but is doing a little better now. This is a tough recovery, though, and we aren’t sure how long it will take him to get back to karate. Given the uncertainty, I am concerned that we have enough donations to cover only one more month of bills. If you are able, please consider donating and sharing the fundraiser again. This would mean Sensei wouldn’t have to worry about the bills for a little while longer, and can just continue to focus on his recovery.

Good evening, karate families.
This is Stephanie, or Mrs. Sensei. I am writing to you all tonight to let you know that Sensei Bryan is in the hospital and will be undergoing a pretty intense surgery tomorrow afternoon. Because of this, we have decided to close the school until Sensei is healed up and back on his feet. There may be classes here and there, so keep an eye on your emails and our social media accounts. I'll try to update everyone when I can.

Now, with this closure comes the question of how to keep the doors open if the school is closed for a while. Sensei Nathan has created a GoFundMe that I will link below. I know times are tough, and honestly, Sensei and I aren't ones for handouts, but anything you can give will be helpful.
