Trail runners head out early and MTB racing starts later — we even moved the Endurance MTB start an hour later to 9:30 AM. There’s minimal overlap, and if you’re feeling adventurous, you could actually run first and race your MTB afterward!

Bringing our trail running and MTB communities together helps make events like Jungle Escape sustainable and keeps more racing on the calendar.

🔥 HELP US KEEP NORTH JERSEY MTB RACING ALIVE 🔥

Over the past year, several XC mountain bike races have been canceled. We’re doing everything possible to make sure Jungle Escape isn’t the next one—but we need the MTB community to step up now.

Our goal is simple: 50 registered MTB racers by Labor Day.

Producing a quality race keeps getting more expensive—permits, insurance, emergency services, timing, staffing, course preparation, awards and more. We can’t wait until race week to know whether enough riders are coming.

Yes, Jungle Escape now shares the day with trail runners. That’s one of the ways we’re helping make the event sustainable—but the schedule is intentionally designed for minimal overlap:

🏃 Trail runners head out early
🚵 MTB racing starts later
🌲 Most runners will be finished or beyond the primary MTB course areas before bike racing begins
🎉 Both communities come together for one great festival atmosphere

And the new MTB course is solid: a little less climbing, plenty of Jungle’s signature technical terrain and some fun downhill flow to break up the rocks.

If you want XC racing to continue in North Jersey, the most meaningful thing you can do is register now. Bring a teammate, challenge a friend and share this with your club.

If we don’t reach the number needed to move forward, registered riders will have the choice of a full refund or transferring to Frosty Woods on November 29.

Jungle Habitat wasn’t just a zoo, it was a drive-through safari where animals roamed free and your car was part of the experience

Warner Bros. Jungle Habitat opened in 1972 in West Milford, originally created by Warner Bros. as a drive-through safari park.

Visitors would literally drive their own cars through different sections filled with animals like lions, bears, elephants, baboons, and more... with minimal barriers separating them.

It quickly became one of the most unique attractions in New Jersey… but also one of the most chaotic.

Reports of aggressive animals, damaged cars, and safety concerns started piling up. Baboons were especially notorious for climbing onto vehicles, ripping off windshield wipers, and causing havoc.

After a series of incidents and mounting pressure over safety and animal welfare, the park shut down in 1976... just four years after opening.

During it's short lifespan... there were rumors of lions mauling people and animals escaping. Both were true.

Today, the land is part of Long Pond Ironworks State Park, and while the animals are long gone, pieces of the old roads and structures are still hidden in the woods, adding to the legend of one of NJ’s strangest attractions
