We’ve received quite a few questions asking whether our yoga experiences at Dreamcatcher Equine Healing Ranch involve doing yoga on horses. We’d like to kindly clarify that they do not and this is a very intentional decision.
After conversations with experienced ranchers and equine professionals, as well as concerns surrounding prolonged weight distribution on a horse’s spine during stationary activities, we have chosen not to offer yoga on horses. Our ranch partner has personally witnessed situations where this type of activity resulted in discomfort and strain to the horse, and out of respect for the animals’ wellbeing, we feel this approach best aligns with our values.
The safety, comfort, and emotional wellbeing of the horses will always come first.
Our experiences are designed differently. Yoga and mindfulness practices take place separately in a peaceful outdoor setting, while horse interactions are done respectfully and intentionally afterward. This allows guests to experience grounding, connection, presence, and the calming energy of the horses without placing unnecessary physical stress on them.
While other programs may offer mounted yoga experiences, we have intentionally chosen an approach centered around ethical interaction, safety, and creating a calm environment for both guests and horses. We appreciate everyone’s curiosity and support, and we’re excited to continue creating meaningful experiences that honor both people and animals.
