Sunset Valley Golf Course brought the usual: sneaky length (just under 6,000 yards), and greens that punish anything hit with the confidence of a mediocre putter.

Frank Garcia ran away with it today, posting net 71 (79-8). He closed with a 38 on the back and capped it with a birdie on 18 to win by 4 over Jon Schiavo (second straight runner-up) and Joe Kepic.

Best weather of the year so far too. Sunny, mid-70s, zero complaints. Shout out to Charlie for treating the group to Transfusions from the beverage company he represents!

Black Bear Golf Club at Crystal Springs Resort was a welcome change last Sunday. First event all year with genuinely great weather, and it felt like everyone showed up ready to play.

We were at Black Bear Golf Club in Franklin, NJ, tucked into the hills of Sussex County. Course conditions were excellent: fairways were spotless, bunkers were dialed, and the rough made you think without turning into a penalty. The greens were the real story. Fast, true, and just enough movement to keep you honest. A putt that looked safe could get away from you in a hurry, and suddenly par wasn’t automatic.

Henry Zygmunt turned back the clock and stayed on top of the board most of the day, taking the win with a net 75 (102–27). Jon Schiavo made it interesting late with two birdies in his last three holes, finishing one back at net 76 (89–13). Hank held on, punched another ticket to the year-end Player’s Championship, and lived to tell the tale.

Next week: Sunset Valley. Don’t let the yardage fool you. The real defense is those undulating greens, especially anything downhill.

High Bridge Hills Golf Club showed up in full links mode last Sunday: cold, windy, and ready to humble anyone who tried to get cute off the tee. Balls were moving on the greens, flags were leaning, and “good shot” didn’t always mean “good result.”

Charlie Padilla finally climbed back into the winner’s circle with a net 72 (82–10), edging Taka Kitsuta by one (90–17 = 73). The difference was the finish: Charlie came home in a gross 39 and buried a clutch birdie on the par-5 15th when everyone else was just trying to survive.

Ticket punched to the year-end Player’s Championship.

Great Gorge Golf Club tried to ruin everyone’s Sunday. We survived anyway.

We played the Quarry-Rail course at Great Gorge Golf Club in Vernon, NJ, the old Pl***oy Club property. Overnight rain left it wet and playing way longer than the 6,200 on the card. Add wind and rolling, undulating greens that turned safe putts into 6–8 foot come-backers and you get one of the toughest Weekenders events in years.

Jeff Matvienko won with a net 76 (86–10). That’s a high winning number for this league, which tells you how hard the day was. It’s also Matvienko’s 17th career win, still the all-time leader, and another ticket punched to the year-end Player’s Championship.

This week we’re back at it at a course that is usually one of the favorites, High Bridge Hills Golf Club. If you’re a competitive golfer (handicap doesn’t matter) and want to check out what we’re about, message me about coming out as a guest when we have an opening.

Last night was the Weekenders Golf Cub year end party at Mickey's Bar & Grill. 🍗🍻🏆

Wings, beers, trophies, and prizes - a good time was had by all.

Thanks to all the members that played, helped at events, and made our 54th season one of the best yet!

🎯 Congrats to Your 2025 Weekenders Singles Match-Play Champion: Jae Kim! 🎯

Jae put together an incredible season with 4 individual low-net victories throughout the year and capped it off with his second career Major with his win over Jeff Matvienko.

Cold in stroke play. Clutch in match play. Player of the Year résumé?

Sica Cup Stays Home 🏆🔥

Named for our former president Jerry Sica, the season finale delivered everything we love about this league - pressure golf, big swings, and clutch putts. Coming in 3-0 vs Peddie Golf Club, we walked into their house this year in East Windsor on a perfect late-October day.

Peddie was pure fall golf, tree-lined, baked in autumn colors, and tight. Fairways were a must; miss your spot on the greens and hello, three-putt city.

The boys answered. The Weekenders successfully defended the Sica Cup, taking it 6-2 on Peddie’s home track.

Congrats to this year’s Sica Cup Team! Thanks to Peddie for the hospitality - see you next year!

Players Champ Crowned. Season Spirit Alive. 🏆⛳️

Blue-sky October vibes at Mercer Oaks Golf Course last Sunday as Frank Garcia fired a gross 76 (net 3-under) to win the Players Championship, edging Joe Kepic by two strokes. Frank’s back-to-back birdies on 8 & 9 set the tone - clean, confident, clutch.

This finale brought together our low-net winners from this year, doubles & singles champs, plus the defending Players Champ - the best of the Weekenders in one field. Mercer Oaks was a hit… expect to see it again.

Next up: the Sica Cup, named after our longtime former president Jerry Sica, a Ryder-Cup style showdown vs. members of the Peddie Golf Club. We’re undefeated (3–0). This year, they are hosting us on their home track. Let's bring it!🔥
