OPEN HAND SELF DEFENSE September news letter 2026
It’s time to start thinking about the November Joliet Seminar. The date is November 13th for the Tru, and the 14th for the regular seminar. Get with Grand Master Morris to get prices and signed up. We need to know who will be going, and you all can possibly work out car pooling together.
September is here!! Just a reminder to everyone that we are having our last family gathering for the year. September 26th is our FALL FEAST, Chili/Soup/Casserole/Dessert cook off. 1P.M. at Rockwood State park. There is a prize for each category. Make one dish or one for each category. Just please mark if it contains any dairy product in it. Tables will be set up for each different category, with a cup in front of the dishes. Everyone will receive 3 tickets, you can place your tickets in YOUR Favorite dishes cup. And yes even the youth get to vote for their favorite ones too.
OK now December 15th will be our last YOUTH testing for the year. Are celebration for this one will be a movie party here at Open Hand Self Defense on December 23rd. Bring a snack to share with everyone. Please no cake or cupcakes! We are still deciding on the movie we will be showing. And we are still deciding on for the adult class celebration. Possibly Ax throwing or cosmic bowling has been discussed. Trying to work out details and a possible date yet.
The weather will be changing soon! That means it is uniform change time too.. STARTING OCTOBER 5TH WE WILL BACK TO FULL UNIFORMS. Absolutely no hoodies are to be worn under uniform. And as a refresher for everyone of our uniform code, no long pants showing from under the uniform, and no long sleeves showing from under the uniform. Short sleeve shirts under the uniform is fine. We have the restroom for changing or they can start coming already in their uniform. Jeans and sweat pants under the uniform restrict movements , this is why we ask that you either just wear uniform pants or a pair of short under the uniform pants.
Halloween is also just around the corner. We set up a stand in front of the school for the fall fest and for TRICK OR TREATING NIGHT. From now till October 16th Sensei Tammy is collecting cash and candy donations for this. PLEASE NO CHOCOLATE. We will be making individual treat bags to hand out this year. Any funds left will help pay for the apple cider and popcorn we will be making for the Christmas walk again this year. Once again looking for donations for that and volunteers to help us.. Sorry to say we will not participating in the parade this year.
