Here is a reminder about Burke County Public School's clear bag policy that was posted last year. Be sure to give yourself enough time to go through security. Let's all have a great and safe time as we have another great season of Patriot football!!
Burke County Public Schools has issued a new security measures for all athletic events. There will be people with metal detecting wands at each gate and there is a clear bag ONLY policy in place.
Message from FHS Principal Shanda Epley
On Friday Night, our school will use handheld wand metal detectors as part of our continued efforts to keep students, athletes, staff and fans safe. The process will be quick, respectful and focused on prevention — and is not in response to any specific threat. The district is also implementing a clear bag protocol at athletic events. Medical bags and diaper bags are allowed but are subject to inspection. These safety measures take effect for JV and Varsity football games for the remainder of this season, upcoming middle school, JV and varsity basketball games in November and middle school football next year.
What to Expect at the Athletic Event Gates: Upon arrival, attendees will be asked to place metal belongings — such as keys, wallets and cell phones — in a basket/container before being screened with a handheld metal detector wand. Please arrive early to allow time for screening before kickoff. Gates open at 6:00. Follow staff directions and have metal items ready when you reach the gate to help keep lines moving smoothly.
Remember, these procedures are in place to ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone attending our athletic events. We are grateful for a NC Center for Safe Schools grant that assisted us in purchasing the wand detectors as well as other safety equipment.
Thank you for your continued partnership in keeping our schools safe!
Have a good evening! Mrs. Shanda Epley, Principal at Freedom
