Advisory: swimming and wading at the beach at the Morganton Point Recreation Area on Lake Blue Ridge, Fannin County, GA are not recommended. Results of a routine water test identified conditions, likely due to recent heavy rains, that exceed water quality standards established by the Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD). Morganton Point Recreation Area will continue to be open for camping, picnicking, launching boats, and other recreational activities, and visitors may continue to use the beach during the advisory period. The Forest Service will continue to conduct water tests in coordination with the EPD and TVA and will remove the advisory as soon as possible.

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources will be leading a program including reptile models and a live specimen display for the public to gain a better understanding of our slithery snake friends. In this program, guests will learn about the anatomy, morphology, and lifestyle of Georgia’s native snakes.

Important information for this weekend at Morganton Point!

Parking Alert for Morganton Point Recreation Area

We expect higher-than-normal visitation during the Fourth of July holiday season. To help accommodate additional guests, Morganton Baptist Church has graciously allowed us to use their parking lot for overflow parking. Visitors may park there at their own risk.

All visitors using overflow parking must still stop at The Point entrance and pay the $5 day-use fee before parking.

We appreciate our partnership with Morganton Baptist Church and thank all visitors for helping make this a safe and enjoyable holiday weekend for everyone.

Plan ahead, allow extra time for arrival, and enjoy your visit to Morganton Point Recreation Area!
