UCHS had three teams compete in the McCracken County open fishing tournament this past Saturday. Due to freezing temperatures it was shortened to half a day. Forty nine teams competed. The team of Landyn Hendrickson and Pierson Divine placed 7th with a beautiful 4 lbs 10 oz smallmouth. Sutton Sheffer and Mathew Bolden placed 13th with one fish. Brock Rushin and Stone Shepherd failed to land a keeper fish on a brutally tough fishing day. Thirty six of the forty nine teams failed to catch a keeper. Congratulations guys for your efforts. Thanks to our boat captains Sean Sheffer, Bobby Collins and Wade Steward for braving this weather to get these young men on the water.

Union Couty Fishing team competed in the Marshall County open tournament Saturday November 1st Fishing was tuff. Only one team out of 63 weighed a limit of fish. Only 25 teams were able to bring a fish to the scales. Our team competed well. Never gave up. The team of Ryan Salyers and Bill Jones and aprin Chad Robison placed 10th with a beautiful 4lb 9oz smallmouth. Our other three teams failed to catch a scorable bass. We had our first all female team of Chloe McCray and Gracie Owen to compete in high school fishing. Unfortunately where not able to catch a scorable bass. Other teams to compete were Sutton Sheffer with Mathew Bolden. Brock Rushin with Pierson Divine. Thanks to our boat captains Sean Sheffer, Chad Robison and Bobby Collins for their dedication. Next tournament will be held at Ky Dam Marina on December 6.

We will have a meeting of the UCHS Fishing Team on Tuesday, October 21, 2025. We will meet at 6:00pm at the Farm Bureau building. Anyone wishing to participate in the fishing program needs to be at this meeting. If you have not signed the Consent, please have your parent scan this code and fill out the communications form. I failed to mention the gratitude I have for the boat captains that make this happen. Brad Morris, Sean Sheffer, Jake Harkins, Bobby Collins, Scott Clements. and Chad Robison. You guys rock. Thank you so much for giving of your time and resources with no compensation other than the knowledge that you are making a difference in these young men’s life’s. I can not thank you enough.

UCHS fishing team competed in the region 1 bass fishing tournament on Saturday, April 26th. We entered six teams and qualified three teams to the Ky State Championship to be held on Lake Cumberland on May 9/10. There were 121 teams competing in the regional. Leading the way for UC was the team of Kyle Gibson and Rylen Owen with an 8th place finish weighing 4 fish for 11.4 lbs. Next was Will Clements and Drew Thomas in 15th place with 5 fish weighing 10.2 lbs. The third team qualifying for state was Ayden Duncan and Ryan Thomas with four fish weighing 9.1 lbs for 20th place. Just missing the cut was Sutton Sheffer and Tristan Griggs with three fish weighing 6lbs for 38th place. Ashton White and Ryan Salyers weighed one fish for 2.12 lbs for a 57th place finish. The team of Mathew Collins and Bill Jones also competed but did not catch a scorable bass.

It has been an exasperating season with the weather and cancellations of tournaments. But the UC fishing team did compete in the MLF high school tournament this past Saturday. Competing against 80 teams in extreme weather conditions it was a struggle. Will Clement’s and Drew Thomas lead our team with a beautiful 4.14 lb smallmouth. A personal best for Drew Thomas. They placed 27th. Mathew Collins and Bill Jones placed 28th with two fish weighing 4.13 lbs. Kyle Gibson and Rylen Owen placed 37 with two fish weighing 3.13 lbs. Ryan Salyers and Ashton White had one fish weighing 2.14 placing them 41st. Tristan Griggs and Sutton Sheffer had one fish @2.1 lbs placing 52nd. Ayden Duncan and Ryan Thomas, fishing in there first tournament placed 53rd with one 2 lbs bass. Lane Clements and Landyn Hendrickson competed but did not catch a scorable bass.
