Wishing Sutton Sheffer and Ryder Hagan the best of luck. They are traveling to Lake Cumberland for the High School Nationals Championship. This will be Suttons second time qualifying and the first for Ryder. Proud of these young men. Go represent Union County and bring home a National title. If you know these young men send them support. They will be captained by Sean Sheffer. The tournament will start Wednesday, June 24th. They will be competing against over 400 of the best high school anglers from all over the country. Once again! Good Luck guys. I also want to thank all the sponsors for this season. Without your support this could not happen.

A little slow putting details on this page. Gracie and Chloe competed admirably during the state tournament. They fished hard the first day and caught several fish. They just couldn’t find the keepers. Going out the second day tied for last place is sometimes daunting. But they didn’t let it get them down. They battled back catching 4 keepers to move them into 5th place. One fish shy of taking the state title. What an amazing comeback. I am so proud of these girls.

The Union County Fishing team took four teams to compete in the TBF State championship this past Saturday at Lake Cumberland. Fishing was extremely tough as only 61 teams weighed a fish. There were 166 teams competing. Sutton Sheffer and Ryder Hagen lead the way for the Braves with a 3 fish limit weighing 6lbs 10 oz. That placed them in 21st place. The team of Ryan Salyers and Pierson Divine place 34th with one bass weighing 3.15 lbs. Teams of Ryan Thomas and Landyn Hendrickson, Bill Jones and Brock Rushing did not catch a scorable bass. Congratulations to all our anglers as they competed admirably. Next tournament will be Saturday the 28th out of Ky Dam Marina. Weigh in will be 3:00pm. Come see what this is all about and support these fine young men and women.

Union County Fishing team participated in the Dave Steward Memorial tournament held on Ky Lake on March 14th. The bite proved to be stingy. 81 teams competed yet only 41 teams boated a legal fish to bring to the scales. Our team of Ryan Thomas and Landyn Hendrickson led the way for UC with one fish weighing 3.07 lbs to take 26th place. Sutton Sheffer and Ryder Hagen placed 36th with 2.03 lbs. Gracie Owen and Chloe McCray placed 37th with 2.0 lbs and the highest all girl team finish. Bill Jones and Brock Rushing competed but failed to boat a scorable bass.

Congratulations to Sutton Sheffer and Ryder Hagen for taking 1st place in the TBF National qualifier held on Ky lake. They battled harsh elements to land four fish for 17lbs 1oz to best over 80 teams from around Ky. The win qualifies them for the High School National tournament to be held on Lake Cumberland this coming June. This gives Sutton his second consecutive qualification for this prestigious tournament. Also weighing in 2 fish for 5lbs 4oz were Ryan Thomas and Jax Jose. Not bad on a day that left many anglers cold and frustrated.

UCHS had three teams compete in the McCracken County open fishing tournament this past Saturday. Due to freezing temperatures it was shortened to half a day. Forty nine teams competed. The team of Landyn Hendrickson and Pierson Divine placed 7th with a beautiful 4 lbs 10 oz smallmouth. Sutton Sheffer and Mathew Bolden placed 13th with one fish. Brock Rushin and Stone Shepherd failed to land a keeper fish on a brutally tough fishing day. Thirty six of the forty nine teams failed to catch a keeper. Congratulations guys for your efforts. Thanks to our boat captains Sean Sheffer, Bobby Collins and Wade Steward for braving this weather to get these young men on the water.
