The newest member of the Goose Mafia Retriever Club had her debut in the field this morning!

Our nephew’s lab, Ava, made 2 retrieves this morning like a pro! We are excited about Ava being part of the regular crew!

It’s opening day 2024 and we’re back!

After a year off with Drifter, the FDA approved a new arthritis injection, (Librela), and we started it in May. After 2 injections, we started to see improvement. He just got his 4th injection last week, and he is lighter on his feet, more playful and running SO FAST again!

He’s finally smiling and he got to retrieve his first goose of the season this evening! The only goose to show up, was harvested!

Good job Drifty! 10 years and still chasing geese!

This was a completely blind retrieve for him, as we were in some trees and behind a berm. He made quick work finding it and was so happy, he went “full-tilt rodeo” before he picked it up! My heart is happy knowing I get to enjoy this season with my heart dog again!

For anyone who has been following our group for any amount of time, you know that part of our field staff is our British Lab, Drifter.
Over the course of the past 8 months, Drifter's mobility has decreased.
We did all of the tests, bloodwork, imaging - all of it. Unfortunately, Drifter has very severe arthritis in both elbows and severe hip dysplasia.
He's getting the best care possible, and he will be in the field this waterfowl season, as much as he can be. We won't push him through pain, he will get as much rest as he needs between hunts, and I will make absolutely sure, that this will be a great final season for him, whether the birds show up or not! It will be all about him, having fun, enjoying time out in the field and keeping him comfortable while doing so.
Originally, I thought I would retire him at age 10. He's 8. And although the thought of hunting without him is difficult- I won't sacrifice his overall health and lifespan to have him in the field longer.
So if you have a few seconds, could you possible put a shout out into the universe for Drifter to have the most amazing last season chasing geese with the Goose Mafia, please?

In just 14 days, we'll be back in the field! Are you ready?

We cannot wait to see what the 2022 Wisconsin Waterfowl Season holds!

Get your licenses ready to go, your decoys lined up, your layouts cleaned out and your gear ready to go! And don't forget about your canine hunting buddies too!🐾

As always- we wish all of our fellow hunters good luck! Have fun, but most importantly, be safe and practice good sportsmanship!
