Y’all have left us speechless with all of your kindness and support in the last 24 hours (and if you know us, that’s really saying something). Thank you for making a tough thing, a bit brighter.

We’d love to have you visit before we close! Please come join us! And we will have deals and sales every weekend until closing.

We have an important update. After a lot of prayer, thought and discussion, we have made the decision to close our storefront.

We will continue to operate our website (supporting us there will be paramount for us as we make this change) and also doing popups, but obviously things will be very different and this will be a huge pivot and process for us.

The shop will have its closing day on May 31st. We will all celebrate together! Stay posted for deets.

In the end, the shop is closing for a lot of reasons. We’re sure it’s not a surprise to you that the economy is weird and times are tough. However, we will also enjoy our time together as a family, without the added pressure of keeping the shop. While we will still have the online store, the stress that the shop caused for us will be greatly reduced. No more missing family events, turning down invites from our friends, spending Saturdays at the shop when we’d rather be with our boys.

We are so proud of all of the adventures we sent others on, but we are also looking forward to taking our boys camping and fishing (things that have been put on the backburner as we have struggled to make the shop work). We love the people we met and the impact they had on us. We will also love the time to be husband and wife, mom and dad, without stressing about “who is at the shop today” and “did we hit our sales goal”, and honestly, in the end, maybe that’s the biggest reason the shop is closing.

We still plan to be involved in the industry and are still very proud of the work we did to diversify the outdoor industry and we hope that this pivot allows us more time to create content and support initiatives related to that important part of our work. Something we’ve said all along is, if this day ever came, “Just because it failed, doesn’t mean it didn’t work”. This has always been about more than selling gear, and we hope that when you think of us and SPO that you think of the change we helped to enact, and we will continue to push for change.

In the end we just want to say thank you. Act Justly, Love Kindly, Serve Humbly, and as always Adventure Out!

Love,
Jahmicah & Heather (& Si & Fi & Bill Murray The Basset)

This week was the anniversary of the film that changed our lives. And while some things have changed, like our location, our building, and the age of our kids (can you believe how tiny they were??) some things haven’t. Business is still hard, and we’re still hanging in there.

You only have to be a human that exists to know that things are weird right now. That has extended over to retail. We always encourage you to support your local businesses, wherever that may be, but if you’d like to support us specifically, during Black History Month, here’s how!

••••Special order your gear with us! You can always email [email protected] to get details on something you’re looking for!

••••Order our branded gear (tagged in our stories!)

••••Share our story

We’ve always said, this isn’t about selling gear. It’s about so much more! We hope that you live out our mission of Act Justly, Love Kindly, and Serve Humbly and that you Adventure Out!

If you’ve missed us lately; there’s a reason why. We lost someone very important to us this holiday season, Heather’s grandpa, or PawPaw Finis as we call him, passed before Christmas. It’s been a few months of weird schedules and delayed responses and we know that and we’re thankful for your patience.

Below are some words Heather shared about him at his funeral and we would love for you to read him. He was the best. Truly. We wish you all could have known him.

The video of PawPaw singing is so special to us. And I find comfort in the fact that he doesn’t have to wonder how the old folks are at home anymore. He knows how his parents, and grandparents and siblings and friends that have passed on are now. As my youngest, also named Finis, or Baby Finis as I call him, said earlier this week, “PawPaw Finis is going home”.
I know a lot of you are probably thinking “He was 91, how is his family so shocked? They had to know this day was coming?” And I guess the only answer I have for that is, he never seemed old! Ever. He was the most young at heart person, even in his 80s and 90s.
There are a lot of incredible things I want you to know about my PawPaw.

He was so incredibly funny. If you ever had the opportunity to sit with him, you know that. He loved music and we all loved to listen to him sing and play his guitar. He played golf and loved to play with his family.

He was a fan of DFW sports, the Mavericks, Cowboys and Rangers, even though I think he liked to complain about them just as much as he liked to root for them.
My brother and I went to his and mimi’s house most days before school to get ready since our parents had to be at work. One of my favorite things about those mornings was that when I walked in he had the sports page from the Fort Worth Star Telegram folded up and sitting on the armrest of the chair I sat in.
