Built on faith, family, and friendship, Hunter James Lively is an outdoorsman who has built a reputation for doing things the right way, and recognized for being one of the best guides and mentors doing it!

Hunter has been an outdoorsman for as long as he can remember. Running around his grandfather’s property, whether searching for deer and hogs or fishing the creek, helped build the passion and skill set he’s carried well into adulthood. It’s a passion he’s been fortunate enough to pass along to his boys and countless others in his circle.

There isn’t enough space here to cover Hunter’s resume. The opportunity to pursue game across the US and Africa has given him a depth of knowledge, skill, and respect for the outdoors that’s difficult to measure. But it’s not simply his own abilities that make Hunter stand out. It’s his ability to teach, guide, and bring others along with him. In 2024, Hunter was named the Orvis-Endorsed Guide of the Year, an honor that reflects the level of respect he’s earned as a guide and mentor.

Whether you’re brand new to the outdoors or have been hunting and fishing your entire life, there’s something to learn from this man. We couldn’t be more excited to share Hunter’s story and introduce you to the person behind the experience!

Did you know a bobwhite quail can reach speeds of nearly 40 mph when flushed? 🐦

Research on bobwhite flight has recorded speeds as high as 38 mph, and once a covey gets up, hunters have only a few seconds to pick a bird, mount the gun and make the shot.

It’s one of the reasons upland hunting can look deceptively simple until you’re standing behind a shotgun.

Fast birds, quick decisions and no two flushes quite the same.

Watching these dogs hunt is one of our favorite parts of wingshooting at Greystone Castle. From working cover to finding and retrieving birds, they’re an important part of every hunt.

There’s a lot happening beneath the surface at Greystone. 🎣

Across the ranch, more than 100 acres of water are carefully managed for trophy fishing. Habitat management and selective harvest help produce healthy fish and above-average bass, while Greystone’s 80-acre lake was specifically developed with berms, spawning beds, Florida-strain largemouth bass, and bluegill to create ideal conditions for growing trophy fish.

It’s all part of the long-term management that goes into making the fishing at Greystone something special.

Dove season is just over a week away!

For a lot of Texas hunters, opening day marks the unofficial start of another hunting season. Warm weather, fast-flying birds, lots of shooting, and a field full of friends make it one of our favorite traditions each year at the Castle.

It’s hard to appreciate the scale of Greystone until you see it from above.

Spread across 6,000 acres of prime Texas wildlife habitat, the ranch includes miles of roads, rolling terrain, wooded cover, open country, and more than 100 acres of managed lakes. It’s a landscape built for everything from wingshooting and big game hunting to trophy bass fishing and simply taking in a Texas sunset.

There’s a lot of country beyond those castle walls. 🏰
