Jim's late season rifle mule deer hunt was one for the ages. He set an ambitious goal that I knew was achievable but would require us to mix a little bit of luck with a lot of grit and effort. Once we dug up this buck, I knew he was worth hanging a tag on, even this early in the hunt.
As usual, this was a great team effort.
*Joe put his own coues hunt on hold while him and Josh came to spot for us once we relocated the buck
*The rest of the wrecking crew coming in on short notice to help us recover the buck.

The '23 late bull hunts started off hot! Gabe rolled into camp Thursday and when we took him to see this bull he immediately knew he wanted to hunt him. At first light opening morning the plan worked to perfection and we had bull #1 on the ground. # DFO

This hunt is the one we waited for all year! We covered a lot of country and went through a ton of bucks. My wife is very deserving of this buck because she puts up with me all year long leaving to hunt in a drop of the hat to go hunt. I've been very spoiled on having the opportunity to do that with no worries. This hunt was not that way, which I very quickly learn. Having four girls in school, sports, different activities and different schedules quickly put things into perspective for me. There was no just bouncing out and hunting! It meant really late mornings leaving and early coming back. I STRUGGLED! I am extremely thankful for what my wife deals with on an everyday basis!
We found this wide buck with great brow tines and my wife made up her mind. We watch him until late because we knew we couldn't reach him before dark. We gathered up the A-Team (Armand &Ty) and made a plan for the morning. Long story short Ty walked us in undected between multiple herds of deer and with the help of Armand and myself Nikki lit her buck up at 507 yards! Couldn't have done it without the help of these guys! Many thanks to all who helped with the shuffling of our girls and helped on this great hunt!morales .marin01@nikkimmarin

We had the pleasure of sharing a second hunt with Nikki and Pablo in just as many years. We located this buck in a very killable location on the flats the day before we were set to hunt. After not turning him up the next morning, we had to dig him out of some rough and nasty country mid day.

Had an awesome time running around with the family this weekend. Shaysea smoked her 1st kill on a beautiful painted old pig. Alyza laid the smack down on her 1st big boar. The girls performed awesome and their sisters are waiting for the chance to shed some blood in a couple years!
Many thanks out to my beautiful wife and cousin Ty Manuz for helping out the girls! .marin .marin01 .morales

I was very fortunate enough to draw a unit 27 New Mexico trophy coues deer hunt this December! I was very excited for this hunt because of the giants that grow up against Mexico. I soon found out that this hunt was a super challenging hunt for many reasons. The 1st had to be the very limited access through private to landlocked public lands. The second had to be the ever blowing winds that rarely stopped blowing. The last was the crazy amount of illegals (100's a Day) crossing into the country right on top of us.
I couldn't have asked for a better crew to have helped out with all these challenges! Besides having the best glass in the state! The toughness and willings to help out where needed and to sleep in freezing weather out in the dirt. We tore that country apart for days weeding through bucks and avoiding illegals. I am very blessed to have such dedicated family and friends.
Time passed and emergencies took place pulling everyone back to AZ. I gotta give my cousin Ty Manuz a special thanks for the killer pack string of goats and sticking with me for NINE cold, wet, sketchy days and the nights sleeping in the field.
On the last morning the Lord blessed me and Ty with this wide gorgoues buck! He only gave us a matter of seconds to pull a running shot off before he disappeared over the ridge and we got lucky!
Many, many thanks to all the guys who helped and all the families for letting them join me! I could not have made this happen without the loving support of my wife and girls at home pushing me forward! Thanks and I love you all!

We've been a bit behind on the posts because we've busy in the field so here we go catching up. No better feeling then helping and watching your own kids take their 1st trophy! DFO Guide Roylee did just that with the help of Ricky and Netito with his son Rhyler! Hell of a 1st Buck and killer memories made with family and friends.

The general coues hunt always seems to be one of our personal favorites. Backpacking into our coues country and spike camping with the bare essentials is as mentally challenging as it is physically.  Preparing for the hunt comes weeks in advance by narrowing down our primary area to hunt and packing in supplies.

After Scott punched tag #1 opening morning we began to draw up a plan for my tag. I wanted to get into some area further in where the prior year we had seen a really nice buck but never connected with. We loaded our packs with enough gear for two nights and headed on our way.

Not long after arriving at our new area Josh picked up a good looking buck getting up to stretch his legs and feed for the evening. We got the spotter on him and knew he was special when we saw a big extra main beam!! A quick discussion took place about watching him till dark and getting on him the next morning or making a mad dash to get in range for a shot before dark. Josh and I grabbed our packs and took off while Scott and Jason kept eyes on the buck. After about an hour hike we found ourselves approaching a point that would get us as close as possible to the buck. As I was setting up the rifle for a shot our spotters dialed Josh in to the buck as he had moved positions during the stalk. Daylight was beginning to dwindle but as the buck stepped out from his cover I was able to put two rounds in him. He stumbled into some brush and dark set in soon after.
We knew we were going to have to spend the night on that point and be in position at daybreak.

Sleep was minimal that night but after watching the footage of the shots we felt very confident the buck would be piled up in the morning. The next morning came and all went as planned as we were able to get eyes on the buck belly up.

Huge thanks goes out to everyone involved. My three brother in laws Josh, Scott, and Jason. Ty Manuz for breaking out his string of pack goats to help haul water. My wife, Brieanna for holding down the fort while I was gone. My sisters for allowing their men to come along and provide all the help a guy could ask for.
