Pilates isn’t about chasing the burn or pumping out reps.
It is about building strength, flexibility, and mobility through controlled, precise, intentional, and thoughtful movements.
Pilates balances the body. Matching its strength with its flexibility. When you have one without the other, the body feels unorganized. However, when the body is in harmony with both strength and flexibility, there is a sense of freedom of movement, of elegance and grace.
Pilates is complete coordination of the body, the mind and the spirit.
Pilates leaves you feeling energized, lengthened, and strengthened.
Pilates gives you mental clarity, calms the nervous system, and gives you a feeling of renewal and rejuvenation.
Chasing the burn and counting reps is fantastic at the gym. And I love it! However, when you are practicing the Pilates Method you want to learn how to organize all of that strength, power, and flexibility in order to move the body harmoniously. You want the body and the mind connected as one.
Slow down until you’ve mastered the movement.
When you add speed, you must have control.
Be precise, intentional, thoughtful.
That is the Method. That is Pilates.
