The acronym (Morehead Over The Hill Endurance Racers) originated during the flight home after several of the initiating members completed Ms. T's Triathlon in Chicago. The name began to "stick" as more of the flat-landed Carteret County athletes began training together for a variety of races with distances ranging from sprint to Ironman-distance. With a consensus to strive "over" rather than under
the hill, a more accurate reflection of the chronologically challenged abilities of the group was obtained. Since its inception, M.O.T.H.E.R.S. have continued to train, race, and grow old and decrepit with themselves and any other fool-hearted idiots who have nothing better to do with their spare time than to swim, bike, run, and paddle to exhaustion.
