For years I’ve laughed at the irony as the owner of Ski Shack … I snowboard. 🏂 Since 1997, to be exact. And every winter I’d say, “This is going to be the year I get back on skis!” ⛷️
As luck would have it, each season I kept coming up with an excuse not to do it (kids, health, work, etc.) But this year, I made a decision and changed things.
I started strength training in the fall. Ate more protein. Lost 15 lbs. Committed to feeling stronger. I decided if I was going to tell customers to get out there then I needed to do the same.
So today at Montage Mountain, I clicked into a pair of skis for the first time in nearly 30 years.
I was nervous. Shaky. Questioning my life choices at the top of the hill… but I took that first push.
The first run was cautious. The second was better. And after a few more? It was like riding a bike.
Pole planting without overthinking it. Linking parallel turns. Feeling balanced and strong. Smiling the whole way down in those soft, spring-like conditions.
Today wasn’t about skiing perfectly. It was about proving to myself that progress is always possible 💙
