Athlete training is for EVERYONE!
Preparation for sport requires specific training components that are often missing from general fitness programs. Three important aspects of athlete training include:
1. Tracking
Athletes know how strong or conditioned they are based on results that are tracked. Weightlifting numbers, running times, and total sessions are a few of the things that get tracked for athletes. But many gyms and trainers working with the general population do not track these things which makes understanding results impossible.
2. Specificity
Athletes perform exercises that will have direct benefits for their sport or position. A lot of gen pop fitness programs use exercises that don’t necessarily help the participants in their day to day lives. Whether it’s keeping up with your kids, performing at work, or playing rec sports, your fitness program should make you stronger outside of the gym.
3. Testing
Athletes get tested. At certain points in their program, there is time for testing. Whether it’s a max effort lift or reaction time exercise, testing happens. But often there is not a test for the average gym goer. Scheduling testing for clients gives them something to aim for while also allowing them proper preparation and deloading periods. If you haven’t been tested at your gym, it’s impossible to know where you truly stand.
If your gym or program is not doing these three things, you are leaving improvements on the table.
Fortunately, at .athletics we help people train like athletes. Workout tracking, life-specific exercises, and testing weeks are all part of the adult training program.
If you know you can get stronger or more conditioned but your current plan is leaving you wanting more, shoot us a message or stop into the gym. Nothing is harder than the sport of life, and you deserve a staff and facility that is prepared to get you ready for it!
