Meet Boomer ❤️🐴

Some horses come into your life quietly… and then change everything.

Today, Boomer turns 11 years old 🎉.

Boomer’s story actually began before he was born.

His mother, Nellie, who we affectionately called Mama, spent her life as a Premarin mare and never had the chance to raise any of her previous foals. When she was no longer useful to that industry, she was sent to auction. During attempts to load her onto a trailer for what would have likely been her final journey, they realized she couldn’t fit. As fate would have it, a draft horse rescue happened to be there and stepped in to help her. They contacted Darlene Macrina Supnick of Forgotten Angels Equine Rescue in Medford, NJ, who agreed to bring her to the rescue. At the time, nobody knew Mama was pregnant.

On May 11, 2015, Boomer was born. And just like that, a brand-new life began for both of them.

Watching Boomer grow up at the rescue was something special. From the beginning, there was just something about him that made people fall in love with him. Sweet, curious, full of personality, and impossible not to adore.

In 2017, we lost Mama during a serious colic episode. It was heartbreaking for everyone who loved her. Not long after, Boomer left the rescue for a few years to be trained in jumping and dressage. While he learned how to do both, it became clear that his heart really wasn’t in it.

I had told his adopter that I believed Boomer would be much happier as a western riding and trail horse. Because she truly loves him and wanted what was best for him, she agreed to return him to the rescue so he could have the opportunity to find the life that suited him best. Knowing it would create additional expense for the rescue, I agreed to foster him.

And that’s when our journey together really began.

In many ways, it felt like picking up where we left off when he was just a c**t, continuing to build the bond we had started forming all those years earlier.

Boomer is now becoming an incredible western horse and has done wonderfully as part of my lesson program. Like all of us, he is still learning, but he teaches so much in the process. He reminds students that horsemanship is about patience, trust, communication, and truly understanding the horse you are working with. At Mystic Dreams Horsemanship, horses are more than lesson horses, they are partners, teachers, and individuals with stories of their own. Boomer has become such an important part of that story.

There are some horses who come into your life and quietly leave a permanent mark on your heart. Boomer is that horse for me. Over the years, our bond has grown through trust, patience, challenges, and healing. And during one particularly difficult day a few months ago, Boomer reminded me just how powerful that connection between horse and human can truly be.

In ways I will never fully be able to explain, he helped carry me through when I needed it most. That’s what makes him so special to me, not just the horse he is, but the heart ❤️ he has.

And honestly, I wouldn’t trade this journey with him for the world. I’m looking forward to many more years together and seeing where this journey continues to take us. ❤️🐴

Happy 11th Birthday, Boomer. 💙

Our April session concluded this week with big congratulations going out to these three students on completing their Horses & Homeschool session on Monday and Wednesday!🐴

These three spent their time building confidence, learning how to safely work around horses, and creating a connection that goes far beyond just riding. From hands-on care to meaningful moments with the horses, it was a week full of growth, learning, and plenty of smiles.

Watching students gain confidence and form these bonds is what this program is all about—and Talia, Laila, and Taylene truly made the most of every moment.

If you’ve been thinking about giving your child this kind of experience, now is the time. Send us a message and we’ll be happy to share more details and help you get signed up!

Before Mystic ever entered my life, there was a little horse who had already stolen my heart. Saturday, April 11, we celebrated his 13th birthday

Back in 2015, when I first started volunteering at Forgotten Angels Equine Rescue, a request went out for someone to come help groom a miniature horse because a potential adopter was coming to meet him. Of course, I showed up to help. That little horse was Viper.

Before Mystic was ever part of my story, Viper had already made his mark. There was just something about him—and it didn’t take long to fall in love with his big personality in such a small body. Standing at just 35 inches tall, Viper is what I like to call a little spitfire. He isn’t the kind of horse who gives his trust away freely—he takes his time getting to know you, and patience is a must. But once you earn that trust, he becomes something really special.

Viper is fun, engaging, and full of personality. He knows a few tricks that I’ve taught him, and when he gets turned out and starts running, he can put on quite the show—sometimes acting like a tiny bucking bronco, which is always entertaining to watch. And when he’s in the mood, he has a softer side too—he loves giving kisses when I spend time with him.

At Mystic Dreams Horsemanship, horses like Viper help teach some of the most important lessons. He’s a great introduction for younger students, helping them learn patience, respect, and how to build trust with a horse on the horse’s terms. He’s still learning himself, but that makes him an even better teacher.

Every horse here has a story, and every horse has something to teach. Over the next few weeks, I’ll be continuing to introduce the horses who make Mystic Dreams Horsemanship what it is today.

This post is a little different than usual for good reason.

After the storm that came through last Monday night, March 19, we lost power at the barn. No power meant no water for the horses, so until the power came back on, I had to make constant trips back and forth from home, hauling 5-gallon jugs just to make sure everyone had what they needed. Exhausting doesn’t even begin to cover it.

But what I want to share today goes deeper than the storm. Last week, I was feeling completely overwhelmed. The kind of overwhelmed where you’re not sure how you’re going to keep moving forward. With no lessons running for the past couple of months and the cost of hay up, things have been tough, and it was really starting to weigh on me.

Midweek, I was out cleaning the paddock. The boys kept following me around—Boomer and Spirit especially, which isn’t unusual. I gave them a few quick scratches and kept working.

The next day, I was back out there again cleaning my paddock, lost in my own thoughts. This time, it was just Boomer who came over and wouldn’t leave me alone. So I stopped. I gave him some attention, and almost immediately, I felt it, he wanted a hug. Boomer and I hug all the time, but they’re usually quick, just the way he likes it. This time was different. We stood there for several minutes. At one point, I remember wondering where Spirit was. Normally, if Boomer and I are doing anything, Spirit is right there, he’s always curious, always wanting to be part of it. But not this time.

I looked over, and the other three boys were standing quietly at the arena fence, just watching us. Not moving. Not coming over. It was as if they all knew… I needed this moment, alone with him. I leaned into him, and he placed his head on my shoulder. We just stood there. I felt his warmth, his presence, and slowly, that overwhelming feeling started to melt away. The anxiety, the stress, it all just… softened.

We stayed like that for a few minutes (which, for Boomer, is a long time). And when we finally stepped apart, I felt different. Calmer and lighter. Like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders. I looked him in the eye, gave him a gentle rub on his cheek, and thanked him. He nudged me, and then walked away. The others left the fence and went back to their hay like nothing had happened.

But something had happened. Moments like this are why I do what I do. Horses have an incredible ability to connect with us. They feel what we feel, sometimes before we even realize it ourselves. They don’t need words. They just know. I’ve always believed in that connection, but I’ve never really leaned on them the way I did in that moment.

Boomer reminded me that even when things feel uncertain, we’re not alone. We will be okay.

Because at the end of the day, just like our logo says

❤️🐴🥳🎊🎉 Happy 20th Birthday Mystic 🎉🎊🥳🐴❤️

Meet Mystic

She was once a thin Craigslist horse who could have easily disappeared into the system…

Today she turns 20 years old and stands as the mare who inspired the name Mystic Dreams Horsemanship.

Mystic’s journey to me began in 2015 while I was volunteering with Forgotten Angels Equine Rescue, an organization that works to save horses at risk of going to slaughter. One day they found a 10-year-old mare listed for sale on Craigslist. She was underweight and clearly needed a safe place to land.

That mare was Mystic.

She has a tattoo, and after doing some research we discovered that she is a great-granddaughter of the legendary Triple Crown winner Seattle Slew. Despite that incredible lineage, Mystic never raced.

I began fostering her in September of 2015, and in 2016 she officially became mine. Around that time we moved her just up the road from the rescue to a farm with plenty of grass so she could begin regaining the weight she needed. With time, proper care, and lots of grass, Mystic slowly transformed into the strong, beautiful mare she was meant to be.

In 2017 Mystic moved to my sister’s farm, where she lived happily with her herd mates for several years. During that time I worked with a friend who does remote holistic work and we discovered that Mystic likely suffered an injury as a two-year-old, which explains why her right hind pastern will occasionally swell.

In 2024 Mystic made another big move, this time to my lesson barn along with her best friend Viper so I could finally be at my barn full time. The transition was stressful for her and she lost 200+ pounds, so I made the decision not to put her into work right away. Her only job was to settle in and regain her health.

While she’s still working toward her ideal weight, Mystic has made wonderful progress and has gained enough strength that we are slowly beginning to bring her back into work.

At Mystic Dreams Horsemanship, our horses are more than lesson horses—they are partners in teaching. Each one helps students learn patience, confidence, and how to build a true connection with these incredible animals.

Mystic has come a long way from the thin rescue mare I first met in 2015, and her journey is still unfolding.

Over the next few weeks, I’ll be introducing the horses who help make Mystic Dreams Horsemanship what it is today. Each one has their own story—and something special they teach the students who work with them.

But today is Mystic’s day.

🐴💜You truly are the dream behind Mystic Dreams. 💜🐴

Did you know that horses can read human body language better than many people can?

Horses are incredibly observant animals. Because they are prey animals, their survival has always depended on noticing even the smallest changes in their environment. A shift in posture, a change in breathing, or a tiny movement of your shoulders can all mean something to a horse.

That’s why working with horses teaches kids so much more than just horse skills.

When students spend time with horses, they naturally begin to develop awareness, patience, and clear communication. Horses respond honestly to what we do, and kids quickly learn that calm energy and thoughtful movements make a big difference.

In our Horses & Homeschool sessions, students don’t just learn about horses — they learn how to observe, communicate, and build trust with them.

It’s amazing to watch the confidence that grows from these experiences.

🐴 Our Horses & Homeschool program is designed for ages 6–13 and runs in small groups so each child gets plenty of hands-on time with the horses.
