We're Back from the Canaan Valley Bikepacking Expedition 2024!
After 11 days of adventure, challenges, and growth, our team has returned from the Canaan Valley Bikepacking Expedition 2024 (CVX24)! This incredible journey through the stunning landscapes of West Virginia has left us with unforgettable memories and significant achievements.
From the very start, our expedition was a true test of endurance and resilience. On Day 1, we tackled the technical Davis Trail, covering 25 miles in 9 hours, and had a challenging campsite experience involving a swarm of angry sand wasps. Despite the difficulties, our team pulled together and made it through.
Day 6 saw us conquering a 2,266-foot climb up Bickle K**b, a testament to the team's determination. Day 7 brought us face-to-face with the rugged Allegany Trail, where we navigated technical, rocky terrain and steep climbs.
Throughout the expedition, we engaged in leadership and survival skills training. Our friends at Keeping It Real Training provided us with essential wilderness first aid knowledge. The young men led sessions on various topics, from meteorology to Leave No Trace principles. Our heartfelt discussions along with daily periods of reflection and journaling, fostered deep personal growth and camaraderie.
We extend a special thank you to Blackwater Bikes for their support. Not only did they provide us with a rental bike, but they also helped us refine our route, ensuring a smoother journey. Additionally, a huge thank you to the Community Gear Library for their invaluable support with equipment, making this expedition possible.
Despite a few rainy days, our spirits remained high, and we continued to support each other. The beautiful weather on most days added to the positive atmosphere and overall experience.
This expedition has been a transformative journey for all participants, filled with significant physical challenges, educational achievements, and profound personal growth.
