Chubby's Charter

Chubby's Charter Chubby's Charter is a saltwater sportfishing guide on the waters off the Northern Neck of Virginia, including the Chesapeake Bay. By contacting Capt. Capt.

Chubby's Charter was founded in 2013 as a saltwater fishing guide in the Northern Neck of Virginia. Species of fish range from the popular striped bass to seasonal migrating atlantic spanish mackerel. Additional species include, but are not limited to: red drum, speckled trout, taylor bluefish, flounder, white perch, spot, croaker, spadefish and black drum. How it works: Trips can be tailored to t

he angler's desired fish species catch or technique. Chubbs and specifying the desired catch and technique, Chubby's Charter will recommend a season when you are most likely to have a successful trip! We are also happy to do group trips/cruises if the group is just interested in catching a wide variety of fish instead targeting a particular species. Example trips include: trolling for deepwater migrating rockfish, high speed trolling for spanish mackerel or bluefish, skinny water casting for redfish and speckled trout or bottom jigging or bait fishing for additional species such as flounder, spot, perch etc. along with the species mentioned above. Saltwater fly fishing can also be arranged. The northern neck region offers some excellent shallow water oyster shelf's and other shallow water structures that make fly fishing an excellent technique for targeting redfish, speck and rockfish. Fly fishing expeditions are an exciting journey as jet-skiing is the way we guide those trips. Chubby's Charter is dedicated to being on the front lines of both conservation efforts of the Chesapeake Bay as well as it's tributaries. Capt Chubbs is actively involved with the Virginia Institute of Marine Sciences in watching fish populations and bay health. Capt Chubbs is fully licensed for boating as well as sport-fishing in the northern neck-the license covers all who fish on the charter, so there is no need to for you to have a fishing license. We've got you covered! Chubbs also uses the latest technology for putting you on the fish. Along with our instrumentation, Chubby's Charter keeps up with local reports from anglers and utilizes its membership with the Northern Neck Anglers Club as well as the Maryland Saltwater Sportfishing Association.

Another stellar trip in late August with husband and wife taken some time off from the kids to have some fun together on the water😁 It was a blast getting to know these 2 and putting them on fish for a few hours with some great action. When a first timer is catching 27" spanish mackerel on light tackle, I'd say it's a good trip. See you both next season 🤙

Late Summer was a blast with alot of great fishing! This trip was a pleasure taking an old college buddy and his father + father in law in from Michigan and North Carolina-there was quite the banter as one can imagine!

Highlight for these guys, and myself for that matter, was catching the elusive Chesapeake Summer Slam(depending on who you ask😀). Amongst other species they landed striped bass, bluefish, speckled trout, redfish, and spanish mackerel all in one trip! We really got into the spanish at a few points with them airing out on sardines and silver sides-it was a show to behold and I am glad I got to share the Chesapeake with yet another great crew. Until next time gents!

Summer fishing is in full swing in the bay and tidal rivers! Another stellar trip full of Spanish mackerel airing out on spoons and birds and cobia still finding us in the pouring down rain. Always a pleasure to be a part of building memories that last a lifetime...that's why I guide.

2020 was a wild year globally but I found some normalcy guiding in my home waters! With anglers flying, driving and taking trains from Oregon, Texas, Utah, Michigan, Arkansas, Vermont, Maine, Maryland and beyond, I was pumped to share my home waters and all it has to offer with some new anglers! Stripers, blues, perch, flounder, cobia, speckled trout and redfish were all caught in numbers and we had quite a few citation fish caught on light tackle and fly! 99+% of fish were released and a few were even tagged to help monitor migrations and species patterns.

As I look to 2021, I am enthusiastic about the season's conditions and I'm excited to have some of my favorite anglers returning this year along with some new faces! Tis the season. Tight lines!

Oyster time!

Oyster time!

Oysters Spawning: While bay surface water temperatures are approaching the mid 80s, the deeper waters where oysters live are slightly cooler. Oysters are at peak reproductive condition and spawning throughout the bay. Oyster larvae swim in the water column two to three weeks after adults spawn. Larvae then attach to a surface, which is called spatset. Learn more: http://ow.ly/fd7M50BcQfS

Excellent fishing during my favorite time of the year on the Northern Neck of Virginia! I had some great clients this weekend that scored big time on Stripers, Spanish Mackerel, Spot, Croaker, Perch, Red Drum and more. Triple digit day.

Some highlights from the first trip would have to be a striper swallowing a perch one of the anglers was reeling in and still landed the striper! Both anglers landed citation Spanish mackerel on the first few we landed. Plenty of small puppy drum on the grass flats in a foot or two of water-always love seeing redfish. The majority of the fish were released but a handful were kept for a fish fry ☺️

Excited for what this week has in store! Thanks to my newest clients, one of which drove up from Arkansas! Fun to have folks from all over the country fish aboard Chubby's Charter.
