This year, we will feature FOUR unique on-water competitions at FUNC Fest.

🌊 Here’s a teaser for the white water enthusiasts out there so you know how to start training for your events.

River Bottom Downstream Race
This time-trial downriver race begins at Riverbottom Park and ends at the West Main Trailhead. Racers will be released at 1-minute intervals and paddle roughly .8 miles to the finish line. May the fastest paddler be victorious.

Western Slope River Surf Competition
We will have open heats of 5 surfers at a time. Each surfer enters the wave and surfs for up to 30 seconds at a time. This is the event that draws surfers, professional and novice, from all over the country.

FUNCY Kayak Rodeo
Did someone say RODEO? Also known as “playboating” or “rodeo kayaking,” this form of kayaking competition is super entertaining for spectators. Competitors stay in one feature and perform a variety of acrobatic moves and tricks.

Start Here- Paddle Everywhere
This is the one that always draws the biggest crowd! Grab your friends, family, and neighbors for a fun (and free) float through Riverbottom Park. Participants dress up and decorate their crafts (rafts, duckies, paddleboards, kayaks, etc.) in advance and wave to the crowds of spectators as they are cheered on by the FUNC Fest crowd.
Remember, these are just the on-water events happening at FUNC Fest ‘23.
A variety of food, drink, merchandise, service vendors, and live music enhance the event.

Boaters, kayakers, and river-goers use extreme caution!

City crews have been notified of the nearly river-wide "strainer" log wedged against a massive boulder upriver from the E. Main Trailhead bridge in the Uncompahgre River.

Reports came in from citizens using the "Better Montrose App" (and/or the Better Montrose Request Tracker).

If you ever see anything like this that needs city attention, it greatly helps the staff at Public Works to report it via the app or the online request tracker, A Better Montrose.
