Central Vermont Cycling Tour

Central Vermont Cycling Tour Central Vt Cycling Tour boasts unbroken scenery. Come join the fundraiser for local trails. Mountain vistas backdrop farmers haying in the fields.

Well marked courses, great food and three options, from the 13-mile family friendly loop to the 59-mile with 6000 feet worth of elevation challenge for athletes. It's a classic ~ among the best one day bike tour routes in New England. White steepled churches, historic barns. Waterfalls and lakes. The scenery is unbroken. And you are free to concentrate on the beauty because it is a fully supported

We invite you to join us next June at Morse Farm in East Montpelier, Vermont. Choose from 3 tour lengths - designed by Olympic cyclist Pavel Cherkasov - inviting all exuberances to flourish. Short Tour; 13.6 miles, gentle terrain, family friendly. Medium Tour; 33.75 miles, ponds and pastures, fun for all. Long Tour; 59.0 miles gravel grinder route with over 6000 feet of elevation gain, to challenge. Always the last Sunday in June at Morse Farm Maple Sugarworks in East Montpelier. Sign-in and start riding anytime between 8 and 10. All riders can begin at the time that works best for them, between opening of registration at 8 AM and the closing of registration at 10 AM. The tour is a fundraiser for the Cross Vermont Trail Association. We are working to build community paths - connecting
neighborhoods, schools, and parks - with the ultimate goal of a connected statewide network.

Big update for the Central Vermont Cycling Tour. We're thrilled to announce Onion River Outdoors (ORO), Montpelier's iconic bike and outdoor gear shop, has stepped up to be the new lead organizer for the ride. Keep in touch with ORO and all their events at the store website.

Thanks to ORO for taking the baton on the Cycle Tour and keeping things rolling into the future!

The folks at ORO say:

"This gorgeously scenic ride begins and ends at Morse Farm, home of the scrumptious maple creemee, so we have redubbed this ride Tour de Creemee. Everything else will stay the same from the three routes - 15, 30 and 60 miles - to the convenient rest stops, the well marked routes and finally the wonderful, local picnic, including, of course, a celebratory creemee!"

"The soul of this ride remains true as ORO will continue to support the mission of Cross Vermont Trail Association with proceeds. Join us for this family friendly, community oriented ride and experience the magic of cycling the most beautiful gravel roads in Vermont on a summer's day!"

(But then they would say that. Sounds just like them.)

Nice day after all! This year's running of the Central Vermont Cycle Tour was another pleasant day of bike wandering on scenic back roads. By the numbers: 80% chance of rain is not 100% chance of rain; 164 riders aged 7 to 81; and we raised over $10,000 in donations to help build more trail!

Sending out a thanks to local businesses that have donated to 2023 projects and sponsored upcoming events! And taking the excuse to say again Central Vermont Cycle Tour is coming up June 25 - most of each registration goes directly to getting work done out on the trail. Go to crossvermont.org for reg info.

By the way, there's room for a few more volunteers to help out on June 25. If you want to spend the day outside with a 100 plus other people who are having a pretty mellow good time, this is that. Mostly help is needed staffing the food tables. But there's other things too - anyone want to take photos of the riders? (I've been milking the one photo I managed to snap last year, and I only caught up with these two guys because they had multiple flats! Lucky.)

Lanterne rouge! These guys taught me the term. 2022 Central Vt Cycle Tour yesterday was super clear and bright, could really see wrinkles in the mountains, wisps of hay fluttering off many tractor hauled wagons, all sharing the road with 142 riders. See you next year!

Last summer's CVCT - "an original gravel grinder" - saw a record 175 riders and a new fastest known time for the 59 mile route (looking at you John Basa 3:44:12; you're not just a number to us, but the rest is a blur.)

2021 was an amazing year for CVTA events - the Central Vermont Cycle Tour, the Groton Trail Marathon, and the Fall Foliage Ride. All came back strong, safely, after scaling back in 2020. Thanks all!
