Her program is amazing and I’m so thankful we made the decision to do her Bootcamp two summers ago. This has made a huge impact in our gym and program! Betsy McNally Laouar FitnessPro
After every Betsy Bootcamp, I come home with a lot of reflections.
After more than 11 years and hundreds of camps, I often think, “This is exhausting. Surely I can’t keep doing this forever.” Yet every time, I remember exactly why I do.
The feedback is powerful. What has always been harder is getting people to see the value before they need it. Parents readily invest in tuition, leotards, grips, private lessons, meet fees, and travel, but nutrition, recovery, and athlete wellness are often treated as extras.
What many families don’t see are the challenges that can develop over time: stress fractures, chronic fatigue, stalled progress, fear of food, loss of confidence, and burnout. By the time those issues appear, I often hear the same thing: “I wish someone had told me this sooner.” Many gymnasts quit at age 13.
Sometimes people wonder why they should invest in what I call the fifth event. My answer is simple: none of the other investments matter if an athlete is constantly injured, exhausted, fearful, or underfueled.
To every coach, parent, and gym owner who has trusted me over the years, thank you. I leave my own family for days at a time because I believe deeply in helping young athletes build healthy habits that support both performance and long term well being.
