Moeller High School announces that Mike Welker, the head coach of the Moeller Crusaders soccer team, will be stepping down from his position. Over the last nine years, Coach Welker has led the program with passion and dedication, leaving a lasting legacy both on and off the field.
During his tenure, Coach Welker elevated the Moeller soccer program to new heights. Under his leadership, the Crusaders achieved an impressive record of 134 wins, 30 losses, and 25 ties overall, including 35 wins, 10 losses, and 9 ties in the Greater Catholic League (GCL). These accomplishments include the best winning percentage in Moeller coaching history (.775) and the best GCL win percentage in Moeller history (.731). Also under Welker’s direction, the team broke records for most wins in a season, most consecutive games without a loss in regular season, and the longest winning streak of 24 games.
“It has been a tremendous honor to be part of the Moeller soccer program for the last 14 years,” said Coach Welker. “I am grateful to Coach Hurley for giving me the opportunity to be a junior varsity coach for five years, prior to taking over the varsity program. Moeller Soccer will always have a special place in my heart, and my family and I will continue to be the program’s number one fans.”
Moeller High School Athletic Director Jonathan Hayes expressed gratitude for Coach Welker’s contributions to the program. “Coach Welker elevated our soccer program to extraordinary heights. Under his leadership, our soccer program has dominated locally and has been a major factor on the state and national stage.”
Coach Welker’s influence and achievements will remain an enduring part of the school’s storied history. His legacy will continue to inspire future Crusaders to strive for greatness on and off the field.
