Redtails Race Team represented at Farm to Fork Ride Run Crit benefiting Extra Table, a nonprofit that works to feed people who struggle with food insecurity in Mississippi.

Wendy came down and raced the B crit, which is a 45 minute race with 6 turns through downtown Hattiesburg. B race included men’s 35+ open cat and women cat 1/2/3
she describes her experience:
“I came into this race with a lot of fatigue. Finished up a super fun season coaching my kids’ JV and Varsity HS track team with a big meet Tuesday. Coaching in addition to full time work I wasn’t sleeping much this week 😂 but I came Friday ready to race and do my best. When I saw a couple cat 1 and 2 men roll up to the start I got a bit nervous. I try and live in reality 🤣 and I know these guys are a lot faster than me. I met a friendly woman at the start who turned into a new cycling friend by the end of the weekend ☺️ After I got dropped from the lead pack, she caught up to me and we worked together well, trading pulls the rest of the race. Last lap I was in a good position as it was her turn to pull. Unfortunately, I hit a dark pothole and it knocked my bike hard. I stayed upright but it set me a back a couple seconds and I lost her as she caught onto another group. I rolled in 3rd out of the 4 women who had the courage to come race 💕 There aren’t a lot of female bike racers in our area so we often don’t get our own race. I was grateful to have someone to work with who was my speed and it felt like true bike racing! Fun to be back in a crit after a couple years away. Definitely will jump into some more this summer!”

This past weekend Redtails represented down in Hattiesburg, Mississippi at Farm to Fork Ride Run Crit which is an awesome event benefitting Extra Table. This nonprofit does the important work of feeding food insecure Mississippians. Redtail Eric Young dedicated time over the past few months as an event ambassador and he and Treba went down early to volunteer at packet pickup. The two of them along with Egla Nora, Kenny and Wendy rode the 30, 48 and 62 mile rides Saturday morning and enjoyed the awesome party afterwards, hangin with Major Taylor Cycling Club of Alabama and “Mobile Bay Riders Cycling Club” Mobile, Alabama club mates. See you there next year!

Redtails Race Team had an awesome and adventurous weekend of racing! A few racers did their very first bike race! Kenny Frazier and John Gayk we are proud of you! They are both hooked and will be back for more! ❤️ Experienced racer Kelvin B. Scott raced the Sunny King crit as well as the Sumatanga Road Race. Theo Goodin raced at Sumatanga and unfortunately flatted on the chip seal but continues to get fitter and faster every day!
Wendy Luce Jacobsen rounded out the weekend by racing the skyway epic 65 mile mountain bike race, earning second place woman overall ! Next up, Farm to Fork crit and team ride. See you there!

CYCLONE RACING LEAGUE: Bike racing for everyone + designated HBCU collegiate and HBCU alumni divisions

A few changes to the Spring season: All 5 Spring events can now be done between the start date and 5/1/24. All events are now FREE for everyone. All race routes can be accessed anytime at Just Ride - Routes in the Zwift app. (There are free options for those who are not Zwift subscribers too.)

And, all registered riders who complete and post results for all 5 events are eligible to win raffle prizes (and podium recognition!) at the end of the season.

Congratulations to Wendy Luce Jacobsen for her 🥇overall female win at Shake n Brake 65 mile gravel race this past weekend! Go Redtails!!! ❤️🖤
Here’s her summary of the race:
“This was a smaller but competitive race…rumor had it the course was very challenging! We started out on pavement toward a steep climb. Climb was about a 10 minute effort. I was first woman over the climb but knew there were 4 strong women behind me. We hit the dirt and the rest of the 4,000ft of climbing and I kept up the intensity through all the rollers and some steep and loose dirt climbs. Loved how technical the course was and the rocky gnarly descents. Was warm weather and I stopped at every rest stop (thank you volunteers!) to quickly refill water and electrolytes. Nutrition intake was 2 cookies baked by my son and a half pack of Haribo coke bottle gummies. Rolled through the finish still in first and under 4 hours, happy to achieve my goals for the day!”

She is Treba…heart of the Redtails Race Team! Braving the 97 F “feels like 108” degree heat, she persevered and raced all three crits at the Mobile Cycling Classic earning 2nd place 🥈 woman!! We are amazed by her enthusiasm, joy, and work ethic to be out there in the heat for all of those races! Way to represent!!❤️🖤

Redtails back at it 💥💥Representing today at the Mobile Classic Crit and AL state championship! They let it fly and went big!!! Wayne Bledsoe took 2nd in the cat 4/5 race and Kelvin B. Scott took 4th in the masters! 💪🏾💪🏾 We see you out there doin the work, braving the heat and making it happen!!! 🖤🖤❤️❤️

Huge congrats to our Redtails ride or die couple Treba and Eric Young!! ❤️🖤❤️🖤
They are rackin up the hardware!
At Mississippi Senior Olympics Treba earned 3 silver medals!!! 🥈🥈🥈
At Alabama Senior Games, Treba won a gold medal 🥇 in the 20K and 🥈in the 10K and 5K TT!
And in Eric’s words:
“5k & 10k time trial! ( race of truth) ! Both silver on podium 🥈🥈 Still learning to pace myself on these type races when it’s just me. 20k road race 🥈silver on podium! Held on to the lead group until the first hill, decided not to power through those rollers , but found a gentlemen to work with the remainder of the race. We both agreed not to sprint finish, but to cross the finish line together. It was a good day.” 😃

Saturday Redtails participated in the Farm to Fork ride to benefit Extra Table Feeds Extra Table
Each of us had our own goals for this ride and we knocked them out 💪🏾💪🏽💪🏿💪🏼 while having a blast and enjoying fellowship with the cycling community 😊

We are Redtails Race Team and we had a fun weekend together!
Friday we raced a crit 😃 First ever crit for Wayne Bledsoe and it was a technical one with some challenging corners. He raced really well and got 5th place!!!Treba represented in the B crit racing safe and strong!! She was 2nd place woman!!! 💪🏾
Unfortunately the A crit was canceled due to a loud thunderstorm making itself know with a boom at the start line 🤣
It was a great time hanging out with the cycling community and Major Taylor Cycling Club members from all over the Southeast 😃
