Part of the fun of technical diving is not just going deeper, but being able to stay longer! Erik and I did a technical dive today in shallow water with a maximum depth of 60’ and a runtime of 140 minutes. A nice scooter ride to the Aquarium intake pipe and back from Breakwater. Absolutely beautiful out there! If anyone is interested in learning to use a scooter it is a course available to any open water diver, and rentals are readily available!

Interested in a peak into some of the training that goes into becoming a technical diver? It is not easy, but if you are looking for a challenge and more bottom time at deeper depths maybe technical diving is for you! I am currently training with Rick Rowett, who is an exceptional technical diving instructor, captain of the Double Down dive boat and all around awesome guy to be a technical diving instructor under the PADI TECREC program. Arp arp arp, the sound of the sea lion tornado!! When asked what my favorite thing is about cold water diving my mind always goes to the marine mammals. Where else can you have regular interactions with three different, and amazing kinds of marine mammals?!?

I will be hosting a comprehensive sidemount course on January 5-7, and 13-14 in Monterey. There are currently two open spaces for the course!! If you are interested in learning to dive in a sidemount configuration this is your chance! This will be a 4-5 day course depending on your prior experience. Cost for the course is $1350. I will need to inspect any gear you are bringing to class prior to using it. C-cards are available through SDI, or PADI
