TSSN Female Athlete of the Week: Five Standouts Headline Week of August 31

The race for the State Farm Carey Bass Upper Cumberland Female Athlete of the Week is back, and this week’s ballot features five outstanding performances from across the Upper Cumberland.

Volleyball and soccer take center stage for the week of August 31, with athletes from Gordonsville, Jackson County, Upperman, Monterey and Macon County earning nominations.

Lanie Foster — Gordonsville Volleyball
Foster put together one of the most complete weeks on the volleyball court, filling up the stat sheet with 36 kills, 36 digs, six aces and two blocks. She also posted a 2.12 serve-receive rating on 25 attempts, making an impact both offensively and defensively for the Tigerettes.

Lyza Thomas — Jackson County Soccer
Thomas continues to be a dangerous weapon for the Lady Blue Devils. The Jackson County standout accounted for five goals and two assists during the week, directly contributing to seven goals and earning her spot among this week’s finalists.

Emery Huddleston — Upperman Volleyball
Huddleston was the engine behind the Upperman offense, piling up an impressive 101 assists during the week. The Lady Bees’ setter consistently put her hitters in position to finish points and eclipsed the century mark in assists to earn her nomination.

Jalee Johnson — Monterey Volleyball
Johnson delivered production in nearly every phase of the game for Monterey. She finished the week with 69 assists, 13 aces and 11 kills without an error. Her combination of setting, serving and efficient attacking makes her one of this week’s most versatile nominees.

AceeLyn Holden — Macon County Soccer
Goalkeeper AceeLyn Holden turned in a huge performance between the posts for Macon County, recording 28 saves against Liberty Creek. Facing heavy pressure, Holden repeatedly answered the call and earned a spot on this week’s ballot with her work in goal.

Now, the decision belongs to the fans.

🏐 TSSN VOLLEYBALL SCOREBOARD: White County Wins Five-Set Thriller as Thursday Night Delivers Across the Upper Cumberland

Thursday night volleyball across the Upper Cumberland featured rivalry matchups, statement sweeps and one five-set battle that stole the show.

White County rallied twice from a set down to defeat Warren County in five, while Lebanon handed Cookeville a four-set loss. Upperman, Stone Memorial, Monterey, Gordonsville, Red Boiling Springs and Trousdale County all recorded straight-set victories, while Jackson County took down Clay County in four.

White County 3, Warren County 2

For a White County team working through the growing pains of a rebuild, Thursday night’s performance may have been its most encouraging step forward yet.

The Warriorettes outlasted Warren County 22-25, 25-18, 17-25, 25-19, 15-12, twice responding after falling behind in sets before finishing the job in a pressure-packed fifth.

After dropping the opening set 25-22, White County responded with a 25-18 victory. Warren County regained control with a 25-17 win in the third, putting the Warriorettes’ backs against the wall.

White County answered again.

The Warriorettes forced a deciding fifth with a 25-19 fourth-set victory and then closed out Warren County 15-12 to secure the 3-2 win.

Alli Beth Stebing delivered a huge all-around performance, finishing with 20 kills, seven aces, two blocks and nine digs. Stebing’s production at the net was complemented by Ashlyn Selby, who continued to show her development as a volleyball player with 12 kills, 10 digs, two blocks and an ace.

The production wasn’t limited to the hitters.

Mallori Swindell filled the stat sheet, directing the White County attack with 32 assists while adding seven kills, seven aces and six digs.

Miah Jo Swindell anchored the back row with a team-high 16 digs and added a kill. Rhaleigh Cloyd contributed 11 assists, two digs and an ace, while Maddison Henry continued to make an impact at the net with four blocks and four kills.

For head coach Courtney Farr and the Warriorettes, the importance of Thursday’s victory goes beyond adding one to the win column. White County was challenged, fell behind twice and had to respond under pressure.

This time, the Warriorettes finished.

That’s an important step for a developing team.

Lebanon 3, Cookeville 1

Cookeville’s trip to Lebanon ended with the Lady Cavaliers falling 3-1.

Lebanon took the opening set 25-18 before Cookeville responded emphatically, dominating the second set 25-9.

Middle Vaughn Wehage helped ignite the Cookeville offense with five consecutive kills during that second-set surge.

Momentum shifted again in the third when Cookeville middle Brooklyn Holman went down with an injury, forcing the Lady Cavaliers to adjust their lineup. Lebanon capitalized to win the third 25-18 and eventually finished off the match in four sets.

Upperman 3, Livingston Academy 0

Upperman continued its strong volleyball campaign with a 3-0 sweep of Livingston Academy.

The Lady Bees have established themselves as one of the teams to watch in the Upper Cumberland, and Thursday’s performance added another convincing result to their résumé.

Stone Memorial 3, DeKalb County 0

Stone Memorial took care of business Thursday night with a 3-0 victory over DeKalb County.

The Lady Panthers earned the straight-set win as they continue working their way through the early portion of the season.

Jackson County 3, Clay County 1

Jackson County claimed the latest chapter of its rivalry with Clay County, defeating the Lady Bulldogs 3-1.

Any Jackson County-Clay County matchup carries a little extra energy, and Thursday night belonged to the Lady Blue Devils.

Monterey 3, Clarkrange 0

Monterey continued its strong start with a 3-0 sweep of Clarkrange.

The Lady Wildcats have been one of the more impressive teams on the TSSN scoreboard through the opening weeks and added another straight-set victory Thursday.

Gordonsville 3, Smith County 0

Another neighborhood rivalry ended in a sweep as Gordonsville defeated Smith County 3-0.

When Gordonsville and Smith County meet, bragging rights are always part of the equation. Thursday night, those belonged to the Tigerettes.

Red Boiling Springs 3, York 0

Red Boiling Springs turned in a strong performance against York Institute, earning a 3-0 sweep of the Dragonettes.

It was another convincing victory on a Thursday night filled with straight-set decisions.

Trousdale County 3, East Robertson 0

Trousdale County closed out the TSSN scoreboard with a 3-0 victory over East Robertson.

The Lady Jackets continue to be a team worth watching, adding another win to their early-season résumé.

The ticker keeps moving across the Upper Cumberland volleyball scene.

As the season develops and district races begin taking shape, the TSSN Upper Cumberland Volleyball Market Watch continues to track the players whose production, consistency and impact are separating them from the field.

The Market Watch isn’t simply about kills. Outside hitters finishing points, middles controlling the net, setters running an offense, liberos keeping teams in system, defensive specialists extending rallies and servers putting opponents under pressure all carry value.

Some players have established themselves as Strong Buys. Others are climbing through the market.

And remember: the board can change every week.

Mileigh Potts — Trousdale County | Outside Hitter | Class of 2028

There may not be a hotter offensive stock on the board right now than Mileigh Potts.

The Trousdale County outside hitter has put together an incredible run:

19 kills vs. Innovation Academy
22 kills vs. Gordonsville
24 kills vs. Portland
22 kills vs. Friendship Christian
20 kills vs. Westmoreland

That’s 107 kills over five matches, an average of 21.4 kills per match.

And Potts is only a Class of 2028 prospect.

Five consecutive performances with at least 19 kills aren’t a flash in the pan. That’s sustained offensive dominance.

Presley Hickman — Upperman | Outside Hitter

Hickman continues to establish herself as one of the Upper Cumberland’s premier volleyball players.

She delivered 19 kills, 11 digs and five aces in Upperman’s 3-1 victory over Stone Memorial and followed with 14 kills in a sweep of Gordonsville.

Hickman can finish at the net, contribute defensively and create pressure from the service line.

Lauren Clark — Stone Memorial | Middle Hitter

Clark has made the jump up the board.

The Stone Memorial middle hitter has emerged as one of the Lady Panthers’ key weapons at the net and earns a place among the Strong Buys. She also recently recorded her 500th career kill to further strengthen her long term outlook.

A quality middle changes an offense by forcing opposing blockers to respect the center of the net while also providing a defensive presence against opposing attacks.

Clark’s impact has her stock moving in a major way !

Raechel Schliter — Monterey | Outside Hitter

Schliter has developed into one of Monterey’s most dangerous offensive weapons.

She has recorded 57 kills and 14 aces, an impressive offensive output for a player who has also been recognized for her defensive ability.

Schliter isn’t simply a defensive specialist who can attack.

She’s becoming one of the Upper Cumberland’s legitimate offensive threats.

Sofia Bottoms — Cookeville | Hitter

Twenty aces.

In one match.

Bottoms accomplished that against Wilson Central, showing just how quickly she can change a match from behind the service line.

When one player can create that much pressure without the opponent even getting into its offense, the market takes notice.

Ava Skelton — Smith County

Skelton delivered one of the biggest recent stat lines in the region with 19 kills, five digs, one block and one ace.

Approaching 20 kills is impressive enough. Producing in multiple other phases makes the performance even more valuable.

Averi Beyers — Clarkrange | Libero

The Market Watch isn’t only about offense.

Beyers has a legitimate argument as one of the best liberos in the region.

Her ability to control the back row, handle serve receive and turn difficult attacks into playable balls gives Clarkrange opportunities to transition into offense.

Great liberos don’t always dominate the stat sheet.

They can dominate matches.

Upperman’s offensive depth makes the Lady Bees extremely difficult to defend.

Bush delivered 14 kills and four aces in Upperman’s straight-set victory over Gordonsville.

Pruitt is another major piece of Upperman’s attack.

There is plenty of movement in the Upper Cumberland volleyball market.

Mileigh Potts may be the hottest offensive stock on the board after producing 107 kills across five matches for Trousdale County. Upperman’s Presley Hickman continues to show why she belongs near the top, while Stone Memorial’s Lauren Clark has climbed into the Strong Buy category.

Monterey has Schliter at Strong Buy with Monday and Reed at Buy. Cookeville has Bottoms and Cook. Clarkrange has Averi Beyers, Stella Beyers and Young scattered across the top two tiers.
