Here are a few words from Karla Shriver — someone who played such a huge part in making our building possible.
Karla, thank you so much for everything you did for our building and for all the support, dedication, and hard work you poured into this project. We truly could not have done it without you. Your impact means more than words can express, and we are so grateful for all you’ve done for our community. ❤️
I would like to take a moment to congratulate our entire community on another successful project. This truly represents what can happen when people come together with a shared vision.
It has been a pleasure working alongside Jake, the committee, the golf board and golf staff, and city staff throughout this process. Your dedication and commitment made this project possible. I would also like to give a shout out to Judy Phillips and her team in the finance department at the City who I worked directly with. I thought it went pretty smooth considering all we had to deal with as far as the grant management accounting of the dollars. Also, Anita Kinsley and Barb Sears at Community Fund for their fiscal agent role.
This effort has been a long time coming. As far back as 2006, a third-party study reported the old golf club building was identified as obsolete and in serious need of repair. By 2022, the City had no choice but to condemn it. What followed, however, is what makes this story so special—our community stepped up. Volunteers came together to complete the demolition, setting the stage for what we see today.
This project would not have been possible without the support of our grant funders, local government, and the financial contributions from local individuals and businesses. Your investment in this community truly matters.
I also want to give a special and heartfelt thank you to our local contractors. Many of you donated your time, your expertise, and even materials. That level of generosity made a critical difference. Quite simply, without you, this project would not have happened.
We are also grateful to the San Luis Valley Development Resources Group for providing Enterprise Zone tax credits, which helped make those contributions by the contractors more feasible.
At its core, this is a community-led project. It reflects the pride we have in where we live and what we can accomplish together.
Just as all the improvements at the Ski Hi complex were community lead projects that brought new energy and vitality to our city, this new multi-use building will bring fresh life to the golf course—creating opportunities, gathering spaces, and lasting value for years to come.
Thank you all for letting me be part of something truly meaningful project. My family ties to the golf course go back to my late husband Doug being a past board member, and my in-laws, Henry and Zola Shriver spending lots of time on the course.
