Cougar Aquatic Team (CAT) – Building Community In and Out of the Pool.
CAT Partners with Dumpling Diplomacy to Feed Essex County Neighbors
Cougar Aquatic Team (CAT), a year-round competitive swim club, partnered with Dumpling Diplomacy to learn how to make dumplings for the food insecure. From the Montclair Salvation Army, CAT swimmers learned how to cook two types of dumplings and made dumpling cards that accompanied food boxes for
the needy.
CAT 13 & over swimmers recently concluded their short course season, with 17 swimmers competing at Sectionals-level, along with 48 in Gold-level, 40 in Silver-level, and 37 in Bronze-level championships.
CAT Coach, Jon Siegel, shares that the team “nurtures a culture where athletes learn dedication, commitment, sportsmanship, and teamwork. Activities, such as this, further the athletes’ all-around
development as competent, value-driven young adults - lessons that will help guide their future.”
Swimmers put their culinary, and tasting, skills to work at this event. Dumpling Diplomacy founder, Nancy Loo, says “We love working with teams like the Cougars. The athletes learn to make and taste their dumplings. In a delicious demonstration of "many hands make light work," the swimmers craft hundreds to donate to the food insecure. Dumplings feed the body and soul.”
