Notes from the Sanctuary is beginning this September.

A monthly note with reflections, simple practices, things I’m noticing, and gentle invitations for a more spacious life.

The first note is about patience—not the kind we’re usually told to have, but patience with ourselves.

If you’d like to receive it, you’re welcome to join me.

Much joy,

What wants to emerge when the noise becomes quiet?

Resonant Creation is a day of slowing down, listening inward, and allowing what we discover there to take form.

We’ll begin with guided meditation and crystal singing bowls, creating space to settle and reconnect with ourselves.

From there, Amara will guide us into creative exploration through collage, color, movement, and embodiment—not to make something “perfect,” but to follow curiosity and see what wants to be expressed.

No artistic experience is needed.

Just a willingness to pause, listen, and explore.

I've been meditating for many years, and one thing the practice continues to teach me is that meditation doesn't require a perfect moment.

Sometimes the mind is quiet.
Sometimes it isn't.

Sometimes practice happens somewhere beautiful in nature. Sometimes it's in the same familiar corner, surrounded by books, blankets, and all the evidence of everyday life.

The practice isn't perfection.

It's returning.

Returning to the breath.
Returning to awareness.
Returning to the stillness beneath all the movement.

And when the mind wanders—as it will—we return again.

This is what I hope to share through meditation at Sol Sanctuary. Not a perfect way to meditate, but practices that help us turn inward and become more present to what is already here.

No perfect room.
No perfect posture.
No perfectly quiet mind.

And sometimes, a little companion decides your meditation cushion is wherever you happen to be. 🐾

It seems especially fitting to share this one on National Dog Day.

Again and again, we return.

Sometimes quiet is difficult to find.

The mind keeps moving.
The body is still holding the day.
And trying to relax can become one more thing we're trying to do well.

This is one of the things I love about sound.

You don't have to make yourself become still.

You can lie down, get comfortable, close your eyes if you'd like, and simply listen.

Sound becomes something for your attention to rest into.

Sometimes there is deep stillness. Sometimes emotion. Sometimes wandering thoughts. Sometimes sleep.

There isn't a particular experience you're supposed to have.

You simply receive.

Sound healing is one of the ways I create space for rest at Sol Sanctuary.

*Come as you are. Let the sound meet you there.*

I took these two photographs only moments apart.

I had been walking along the beach, leaving this little trail behind me.

Then the water came in.

Some of the footprints softened.

Some disappeared completely.

I stood there watching something I had just made become something else.

Nature is always doing this.

Arriving. Receding. Growing. Releasing. Beginning again.

And maybe one of the gifts of paying attention is remembering that we are allowed to change, too.

We don't have to preserve every version of ourselves simply because it once carried us here.

Some things can soften.

Some things can be released.

And some things can simply be carried back out to sea.

*Nothing stays exactly as we found it.*

*Neither do we.*

Before anyone arrives, I prepare a place for them to rest.

I lay out the mats, bolsters, blankets, cushions, blocks, and eye pillows—not simply to make the space beautiful, but to help each body feel supported.

That's one of the things I love most about restorative yoga.

There is nowhere to get to.

No pose to perfect.

Nothing to prove.

We use the support beneath us to allow the body to soften into stillness.

So much of our lives can be spent holding—responsibilities, expectations, the people we love, and ourselves.

For a little while, this practice offers something different:

**What would it feel like to let yourself be held?**

Restorative yoga is one of the practices I share at Sol Sanctuary, and one we'll experience together beneath the redwoods at Rest Is Sacred. 🌲

*Rest is sacred. Softness is strength. Your body is home.*
