Two athletes, two big moments this fall — and two texts that made our week. 🙌

Madison has trained with us at 838 Strength for the past two seasons, and we couldn't be more proud of everything she's accomplished — capping it off by signing to play Division 1 softball at Wagner College. Her first message back after starting fall lifts with her new team said it all: "Thank you for pushing me harder and harder every time I was there!!!"

Jack spent his spring and summer training with us before heading into his freshman year of high school. A few weeks in, he hit 80 mph in a bullpen session and texted us right away: "Thanks for all the work you did with me over the spring and summer."

This is exactly why we do what we do.

At 838 Strength, we specialize in individualized athlete training — every athlete follows a program built around their sport, goals, and areas for improvement. We now offer both private 1-on-1 sessions and youth small group training.

If you have an athlete who wants to get stronger, faster, and more confident heading into their season, send us a message or email [email protected] to learn more.

Kelly has been training with us as she prepares for Swim Across the Sound, where she’ll be part of a relay team completing a 14 mile open-water swim across Long Island Sound. With that type of challenge ahead, we’ve been incorporating exercises that build strength, stability, endurance, and total-body control.

This variation of the chest press uses kettlebells suspended from resistance bands while while on a stability ball. The constantly shifting load, combined with the unstable surface, forces the smaller stabilizing muscles around the shoulders, arms, and core to work much harder than they would during a traditional bench press.

For a swimmer, that added shoulder stability and core control can help improve force production through each stroke while teaching the body to stay strong and controlled as fatigue sets in.

Whether you’re training for a 14-mile swim, a certain sport, activity or everyday life, train the movement—not just the muscle group. 💪🏻

Eric lives out of state and came to Connecticut for a couple of months to help care for a family member. While he was here, he decided to make fitness a priority, and what he accomplished in that short amount of time was pretty amazing.

According to his InBody results from May 4 through July 23:

• Overall body weight dropped from 253 pounds to 239 pounds
• Gained 8 pounds of muscle
• Lost 6 pounds of body fat

Eric also lost a cumulative 4 inches from the circumference measurements we took on his first day.

This is another perfect example of why the number on a regular scale never tells the full story. The scale shows that Eric lost 14 pounds, which is great, but it doesn’t show that he was also building a significant amount of muscle, losing body fat, and dropping inches at the same time.

That’s why we use the InBody along with physical circumference measurements. We can also see that because Eric increased his muscle mass, his resting metabolic rate has gone up, meaning his body is now burning more calories at rest. The InBody also tracks water levels and can identify muscular imbalances between the left and right arms or legs. All of those factors give us a much more complete picture of his progress and make the InBody such a valuable tool for creating measurable, long-term success.

Eric worked so hard that he has decided to continue training with us virtually when he returns home. We’ll continue with virtual sessions so we can keep building on the amazing progress he has already made! 💪🏻👏🏻

We're hiring — and you get paid from day one.

Most studios make new trainers grind for months before they earn anything. We do the opposite. Our Paid Coach Apprenticeship puts you on the clock while you learn our coaching system, shadow real sessions, help run the studio, and build your own client base.

You'll learn by watching great coaching happen a few feet away — not from a textbook.

Already an experienced trainer? There's a spot for you too. 838 is built around relationships, results, and individualized coaching — not packed group sessions and quota pressure.

What we're looking for:
— Nationally accredited cert, or an Exercise Science / Kinesiology degree
— Genuinely cares about getting people stronger and more confident
— Professional, reliable, coachable
— Wants a career in fitness, not a side gig

What you get:
— Paid hours while you build your book
— Hands-on mentorship from experienced coaches
— Flexible scheduling
— Free membership + classes
— Certification reimbursement
— A real path to Lead Trainer or management

Send your resume to [email protected] or just DM us "COACH" and we'll take it from there.

Build your career. Help others. Be part of something bigger. 💪

🔥 One Pair of Dumbbells. Full-Body Workout. Serious Conditioning.
One of my favorite ways to combine strength training and conditioning is with a dumbbell complex — a series of exercises performed back-to-back without putting the weights down.

There are endless ways to program complexes, and you can use different variations with both dumbbells or barbells depending on your goals, experience level, and the movements you want to incorporate.

This complex included:

💪 Dumbbell Cleans💪 Dumbbell Chest Press💪 Renegade Rows💪 Dumbbell Bench Press

What makes a complex like this so effective is that we’re hitting multiple movement patterns in one sequence — including push, pull, knee-dominant, and hip-hinge movements — while also challenging the core and driving the heart rate up.

It’s a great example of how strength training and metabolic conditioning don’t always have to be separate. When programmed correctly, you can build strength, improve muscular endurance, challenge your core, and get a serious conditioning effect all at the same time.

Efficient, challenging, and a lot more effective than just jumping from machine to machine.

Train with purpose. Move well. Get stronger.

Recovering from an injury doesn’t always mean you have to stop training.

One of our clients recently suffered an ACL injury and is currently working through the recovery process. While following her surgeon’s and physical therapist’s recommendations, we’ve modified her strength program so she can continue training safely instead of sitting on the sidelines.

At 838 Strength & Fitness, we work with many clients returning from orthopedic injuries and surgery. Our job isn’t to replace physical therapy—it’s to complement it. We build individualized strength programs around your current stage of recovery and, when appropriate, communicate directly with your physical therapist so everyone is on the same page.

Every program is different. Every injury is different. Our goal is simple: help you stay as strong, active, and confident as possible while respecting the healing process.

If you’re recovering from an injury or surgery and aren’t sure what you can safely do, we’d be happy to answer your questions.

Every injury is unique. Exercises are selected based on each client’s injury, surgical protocol, physical therapist’s recommendations, and current stage of recovery.

You can train hard and still be hurting yourself. 🚨

"No pain, no gain" sounds tough. It's also the reason so many people are stuck lifting through shoulder pain, tweaked backs, and plateaus that never break.

Here's the truth: strength isn't built by grinding through bad patterns. It's built by training a body that's actually been assessed, not guessed at.

✅ Ego lifting without a movement screen? That's an injury waiting for a date.
✅ Copying someone else's program? Their body isn't yours. Their split won't fix your imbalances.
✅ Skipping recovery? Muscle grows in the 48 hours after training, not during it.

At 838 Strength, every program starts with a real movement screen and InBody scan so you're training your body, not a guess.

💬 Comment "PLAN" and we'll build your program around what your body actually needs.

From the first fight for freedom to the fight you bring to this gym every day — that same grit built a nation, and it's the same grit that builds you.
Happy 250th, America. 🎆
Here's to the next 250 years of showing up, working hard, and getting stronger — together.

STOP FOLLOWING TEMPLATE WORKOUTS 🛑

Most people walk into a gym, pick up a program designed for “everyone,” and wonder why they aren't seeing results or worse, why they’re getting injured.

If your coach hasn't scanned your body composition or screened your movement patterns, they aren't coaching... they’re guessing. 📉

At 838 Strength and Fitness, we don’t believe in guesswork. Before you lift a single weight, we use medical-grade technology to identify:

✅ Exact Muscle Mass distribution
✅ Precise Body Fat %
✅ Your Resting Metabolic Rate
✅ Movement compensations that lead to injury

We don't build a program and fit you into it. We look at your data and build the program around YOU. 🧬

Precision equals progress. Stop wasting time on "cookie-cutter" fitness.

Ready to see what’s actually happening under the hood?
