City of Monroe has announced "Pickleballfor All!", a free event for the public.

From the City site:
Join Monroe Parks & Recreation and Special Olympics Union County for a community-wide celebration bringing together people of all ages and abilities to play pickleball. Learn how to play the game, get free coaching from pickleball pros, and dink it with someone new!

Location: Dickerson Park, 899 N Johnson Street, Monroe
Cost: Everything is free!

Pickleball for All takes place on October 24, 2026 at Dickerson Park.
Play. Learn. Have Fun. Connect.
Pickleball is one of the friendliest games around, and Pickleball for All is a chance to find that out for yourself. Monroe Parks & Recreation and Special Olympics Union County are inviting the whole community to Dickerson Park for an afternoon built around playing, learning, and meeting someone new.

Come as You Are
Whether you've played for years or have never held a paddle, this event was designed with you in mind. People of all ages and abilities are welcome, and you'll find newcomers, longtime players, families, friends, and neighbors sharing the same courts. No experience is needed, and no one will be left on the sidelines.

Learn How to Play
New to the game? Pickleball pros will be on hand to teach the basics, from the rules and scoring to your first serve and your first rally. Free coaching is available throughout the event, and players who already love the game can pick up a few new tips of their own. Then jump into free play and dink it with someone you've never met.

More Than a Game
When you're ready for a break from the courts, there's plenty to enjoy. Grab a bite from the food trucks, browse the local vendors, or send the kids over to the bounce houses. It's an easy event to enjoy with the whole family, a group of friends, or on your own.

Who's Behind the Fun
Pickleball for All! is presented by Monroe Parks & Recreation and Special Olympics Union County, in partnership with Tennis Bloc. The event is also part of Monroe's America 250 celebration, bringing neighbors together to get active and connect.

City of Monroe Parks & Rec Dickerson Community Center courts are free to use. First come use basis - perfect for drilling, singles and practice! Our group meets for Open Play Tuesday & Thursday night at 6pm, and Saturday & Sunday morning at 9am. Check out the TeamReach app at group code 281100 for our planned playing times.

The courts will definitely be open by 8am on Saturday morning (March 8th) for use and the bathrooms will be de-winterized.
We will announce the City's ribbon cutting ceremony when they give that info.
Park opens at 8am
There are 10 permanent nets. The spacing is 6 ft between net posts, 8ft between courts.

This event is Open Play for Advanced Beginner-Intermediate players.
Attendees should already own their own paddle, understand the basics of how to play & read the current rules online, & want to get some active court time playing in games. If you have never played before, you are welcome to come watch without RSVP.
* We normally plan to play about 2 hours.
*We will have the privately-owned portable nets & balls ready by the start time for play. It is okay to leave early or arrive late. But do not expect the nets to be up beyond 2 hours unless otherwise stated.
* We cannot reserve courts. Only certain schools & Tennisbloc can. We try our best to chose times when they do not conflict, but we cannot guarantee that the courts are available.
* This event is weather dependent!! Check for cancelations. We will cancel if conditions are too bad (incl temperature under 40°, wind over 14mph, steady rain, lightening, extreme heat warnings).
* The courts are open 8am to 8pm. Between these times you are welcome to show up early or stay after we need to pack up the gear.
* We are all here to get some fun exercise without judgment!

Our intended regular times at this time are:
Thursday night 6pm-8pm all year
Saturday mornings: Late Fall- Winter: 9:30am start (set-up & warm up 30 minutes prior)
Spring & Early Fall: 9:00am start (set-up & warm up 30 minutes prior)
Summer: 8:30 start (set-up & warm up 30 minutes prior)

**We are a group of friends coordinating our time schedules to play a game at a public park. There is no stated or implied responsibility or liability of the attendees or hosts to provide any services or fulfill any obligation to any persons either from this or from any other communication sources.
