Things didn't go quite as planned yesterday. We talked Thursday evening and set some goals we wanted to work on this weekend. And Hayley and Gavin set them in motion pretty well in each of their first practices. Gavs car was handling pretty well for him. And Hayley s car was hooking up good and she was 5th fastest in practice.
Then when Hayley was going up to qualify we could hear there was something off with her motor. It started to idle high and we thought maybe the throttle was sticking. Made a quick adjustment. She went out and qualified 8th out of 20 cars, on old tires she ran last year.
When she came in, with the help of we started trying to figure out what was wrong with her motor. Finally figured out the head had blown an injector port so it wasn't firing correctly. We didn't quite have the proper tools at the track to fix it, and rather than take a chance with a "track" fix, and possibly cause more problems, Dad had to make the call to call it a night for #01 deyounginc, black bag motors, Mini-Stock.
Pretty proud of Hayley's accomplishments this weekend. She has a highly competitive car and with her driving skills improving each time out.
Gav drove really well and smart in his heat race. He chose to start in the back if the B main. He drove hard and avoided a few crashes and improved very well for being only 14yrs old driving a new car, which needs a few adjustments for him, in an adult field of 22 cars. He brought it home with an 8th place finish and had a great time.
On to the next one.....
April 20 the is our next race
