Weekend recap.
This was the last official race weekend of the season. It was a beautiful day for racing, so we wanted to take full advantage of it.
We came out with a full fleet of cars, Hornets, Stinger 8's, and Super Stock Figure 8's
Bjornson brought the #01 car out for Hornet Nationals. The Nationals race is different from the rest of the year, as qualifying only puts you in the Positioning Heats. Tanner qualified 14th out of 39 cars and got a great starting position in his heat race. Your finish in the heat determines where you run for the main. They take the top five from each heat as direct transfers to the main. He was able to secure a 4th-place finish and a direct transfer to the main event. In the 50-lap main, it was a fight from start to finish. Tanner fought hard and brought home an 8th-place finish.
Teegan Bjornson brought his #59 Hornet car out of the bushes (literally) for this race. He qualified 24th and had a good start to the positioning heats. It was looking like he was also going to be a direct transfer to the main event. Contact with another car about halfway into the race caused issues with his steering. He fought the car for the remaining laps and was passed out of turn 4 on the checkered flag lap for the final direct transfer spot. We assessed the damage after the race and decided it was better to fix it and make a showing for the Stinger 8 race than try to limp it into the LCQ qualifier.
Funk brought his Super Stock figure 8 car out for the 60 minutes of fear event. We had played with some setup before the weekend, and he pulled off a personal best time early on in the day. The car ran great for the main event. 60 minutes of intersections every 25 seconds is a long and stressful event. The car ran out of fuel with about 8 minutes remaining in the event. He finished the event in 7th place.
Now on to the Stinger 8 race. For the night, the bigger divisions get a full 60 minutes for their event. The stinger 8s get a 30-minute race. Both Teegan Bjornson and Tanner Bjornson started out the race and were running well. Unfortunately, about 10 minutes in Teegan Bjornson's car suffered a catastrophic engine failure, retiring him from the event. Tanner went on to finish the race, coming in 9th.
I want to take a moment once again to thank everyone for a great season. While we had more than our share of mechanical issues all of the cars ended the season on a high note.
