HOMETOWN HERITAGE:
MONROE’S AMERICA 250 CELEBRATION

This summer, downtown Monroe will come alive with patriotism, music, and community spirit during Hometown Heritage: Monroe’s America 250 Celebration on Wednesday, July 8, 2026.

As the nation marks America’s 250th anniversary, the City of Monroe will join communities across the country in celebrating this historic moment with a reading of the Declaration of Independence, held on the 250th anniversary of its first public reading in 1776.

This patriotic celebration offers residents and visitors an opportunity to reflect on the words that helped shape the nation and continue to be remembered nearly two and a half centuries later.

All are invited to gather in downtown Monroe to celebrate 250 years of the American story and share in an evening of history, heritage, and community pride:

• City Market courtesy of Monroe County Michigan Events - 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM
• Opening Ceremony and Posting of the Colors - 5:30 PM
• Patriotic Bell Ringing - 5:55 PM
• Reading of the Declaration of Independence - 6:00 PM
• Live music from the U.S. Air Force Band 'Roots in Blue' - 6:30 PM

The event will conclude with an America 250 Drone Show at dusk over the River Raisin. The show will feature 250 drones lighting the night sky with patriotic images and a special Monroe-inspired finale!

All are invited to gather in downtown Monroe to celebrate 250 years of the American story and share in an evening of history, heritage, and community pride.
