Racing teaches you a whole lot.

But one of the things I'm most proud of is that no matter where Owen is, if he hears the National Anthem, he stops what he's doing, stands, and shows respect.

Even when he's just watching a race from the living room. 🇺🇸

It always seems to take Owen and Tyler a little longer to figure things out.

Tyler has never been happy doing the bare minimum on the car. He wants to know what every adjustment does. He wants to know, okay, here's the box they tell me to stay in... but what happens if I step outside of it?

Because of that, Owen doesn't usually get the exact same car every race for a while. He's constantly having to adapt and adjust right along with Tyler.

And every time we've moved up, every time we've raced something different, it's been the same way.

What feels like an eternity of trial and error. Changing things. Learning. Trying again. Sometimes going backwards before we go forward.

And then there's always that moment when it clicks.

Crew chief and driver finally get on the same page.

And then... watch out everyone. 😏

This part of the season is always hard.

The late nights start catching up with you. Everyone is tired. You're running out of spare parts. You've experienced some of the highest highs and lowest lows, sometimes in the same night.

You're probably tired of racing that one competitor. Tired of fixing the same things. Tired of loading and unloading. Tired of getting home way too late.

You still love it. You still want to race. You still show up.

But this is definitely the point in the season where you start feeling just how much you've put into it.

When I took this picture last night, immediately after the main event, I originally laughed. Like dang guys, don't look so happy about 2nd and 3rd place. 😂

But then it had me thinking.

These kids put so much into this, and they're genuinely disappointed when they don't get the result they wanted. The pressure they put on themselves. The desire for that top spot. The exhaustion after giving it everything they had.

Sometimes a 2nd or 3rd place finish is a great night to everyone watching, but to them, they're thinking about what they could have done differently to get that one spot higher.
