Monona Grove's season comes to an end as the Silver Eagles lose to Madison Lafollette 76-58.

The final score was not indicative of the game
MG controlled most of the first half, leading by as much as 10 points with 3:00 minutes left. However LaFollette sped the Silver Eagles up and cut the lead to 3, at 34-31 at halftime.

MG started out the second half strong as Alex Dean buried a three pointer to give MG a 37-31. The Silver eagles built the lead to seven at 41-34 with 13:25 left.

But over the next 7 minutes, MG committed 5 turnovers and scored only 4 points. In the meantime, the Lancers got hot and hit four consecutive three pointers to take a five point lead.

MG could not climb back and the wheels fell off as LaFollette won going away.

Sophomore Evan Luchetti finished his sophomore season on a high note scoring a team high 23 points.

The future is bright as MG only graduates, senior captain, Blake Leach. The silver Eagles will return 95% of their scoring

Monona Grove WINS!!!

Your Silver Eagles 🦅 win for the 6th consecutive time in Badger Conference play, 58-49, in the final regular season game at the Eagles Nest in Monona.

In another hard fought, physical game, MG found itself trailing 26-21 at the half. The Panthers were able to attack the basket and score seven times in the paint.

MG decided to adjust and switch to the old 3-2 zone to start the second half. It worked!! The Silver Eagles held Oregon for no points in the first 5:30 of the second half. After a driving lay-up and a three pointer by Junior, Henry Thome, MG grabbed the lead 36-29.

Oregon was able to cut the lead to three, but a big three by sophomore, Carson Schoenherr extended the lead back to seven with 3:43 left. Monona Grove would go on to make 6 out of 6 free throws down the stretch to pull away and win 58-49. Henry Thome had 12 and freshmen, Jayden Jackson had 11 in on pace the Silver Eagles.

The win knocked Oregon out of first place. Beaver Dam and Waunakee won and thus will share the Badger Large Conference title. Monona Grove, the hottest team in the conference, finished just one game behind for second place.

MG finished the regular season at 15-9. Now they move to the WIAA State Tournament where the Silver Eagles ( #7 seed) host the Madison LaFollette Lancers ( #10 seed) next Friday night.

The game will be played at Monona Grove. The tip is set for 7:00 pm. We hope to see you all there.

Monona Grove beats Waunakee 63-57!!!

Your Silver Eagles beat the first place Warriors in a hard fought game in Waunakee.

MG battled to a 33-25 lead at the half behind 9 points each from Henry Thome and Evan Luchetti.

The Silver Eagles 🦅 increased their lead to 41-30 early in the second half. That’s when Waunakee went on an 18-2 run to take a 48-43 lead. But Monona Grove did not back down. MG rallied behind Luchetti and Thome. Luchetti scored a game high 20 and Thome with 16. Luchetti and Alex Dean sealed the game from the free throw line as MG pulled away to win by 6.

The win knocked Waunakee into a three way tie atop the Badger Conference Standings.

MG will finish the regular season at home Thursday night against Oregon.

Tip is set for 7:15 and we hope to see you there

Monona Grove Wins!!!
Your Silver Eagles 🦅 beat the DeForest Norskies 77-67 in a Badger Conference Showdown in Monona.

It was a very physical game. 39 total fouls were called. MG jumped out and to a nine point halftime lead behind the hot shooting of Evan Luchetti. Luchetti had 19 points in the first half.

Deforest made a run in the second half tying the game at 51 with 7:56 remaining. Each team traded baskets for the next 5 minutes, until Henry Thome drove down the lane for a huge lay-up with 2:45 left in the game. MG forced turnovers on the next two possessions to create a 6 point lead. The Silver Eagles sealed the game on the free throw line to win by ten.

Alex Dean scored 15 points and Evan Luchetti continued his torrid pace with a game high 28.

It was a great night as we celebrated “Favorite Teacher Night” and we had our 3rd graders in the locker room before the game.

Monona Grove is off for the rest of the week. They will return to action next Monday night in Waunakee. The Warriors outlasted MG in double overtime back in January. The Silver Eagles look to even the score at 7:15 pm

Monona Grove Wins!!!
Your Silver Eagles 🦅 traveled down to Milton and beat the Redhawks 66-56 in Badger Conference action.

Milton came in averaging 71.1 points per game. In the two games vs Milton, the Silver Eagles held the Redhawks to 44 and 56 points. One of the main reasons was the 3-2 zone. MG made life tough for Milton this season.

The Silver Eagles got a career night from sophomore, Evan Luchetti. The 6’4’ guard scored a career high 33 points, 24 of which came in the second half. Luchetti tallied 7 three pointers which broke the All Time Monona Grove School Record.

Freshmen, Jayden Jackson chipped in 11 and MG won for the 12th time this season.

Next up is a trip to the “Slam at the Dam” in Beaver Dam. MG will play Hartford at 12:45 pm

Monona Grove Wins!!!

Your Monona Grove Silver Eagles 🦅 take down the Conference leader, Beaver Dam, 71-48 at the Eagles Nest in Monona.

It didn’t look good early as the Beavers 🦫 jumped out to 15-1 lead. MG missed its first 8 shots, committed 4 turnovers, and didn’t score a basket until Evan Luchetti converted 7:30 minutes into the game.

Trailing 18-6 with 8:39 left in the half, MG went on an 11-0 run to make it a game. At the half, Monona Grove trailed 32-29. Beaver Dam shot a Torrid 13 for 16 from the field for 81%. MG felt pretty good to only trail by 3 at the half.

The Silver Eagles opened the second half on an 8-0 run to grab the lead and never looked back as MG out scored Beaver Dam 42-16 to win going away 71-48. MG shot a blistering 66% from the field in route to the win.

Junior Luke Chynoweth had a career high 18 points while Evan Luchetti and Henry Thome pitched in with 13 points a piece.

In a great high school game, MG falls to Waunakee 70-65 in double overtime

Waunakee came out fast to build an early 11 point lead in the first five minutes of the game. But the Silver Eagles responded with a run to tie it up at halftime 26-26 .

MG opened up a 51-44 lead with 4:05 left. Waunakee capitalized on two MG turnovers late to cut the lead the 55-54 with 13 seconds left. MG's Alex Dean calmly hit two free throws to put the Silver Eagles up 57-54.

But Waunakee's Jacob Muniz hit a step back 25 footer from the wing with 4.0 left to put the game into overtime.

In the first overtime the score went back n forth. With the score tied, Owen Wagner of Waunakee was fouled on an offensive rebound with .4 seconds left.

Wagner under heavy pressure from the Silver Eagle crowd missed both free throws sending the game into double overtime.

In the third overtime, MG had its chances with the score tied at 65, but they missed three consecutive three point attempts. Muniz hit another three to put the Warriors ahead 68-65 with 1:25 left.

MG's Evan Luchetti missed a three point attempt and Waunakee sealed the game on the free throw line, winning the game 70-65 in 2 OT.

The loss cost Monona Grove a chance to tie for the conference lead.

Next up is a trip to Oregon next Tuesday

Your Monona Grove Silver Eagles Win the Kettle Moraine Culver Holiday Tournament!!

MG beat Fond Du Lac in the opening game of the tournament 63-58. Senior Blake Leach had a career high 15 points and Evan Luchetti and Henry Thome added 14 and 11 as the Silver Eagles rallied from a 7 point Halftime deficit.

In the Championship game, Monona Grove upset the host Kettle Moraine. The Lasers came in with an 8-1 record, but the Silver Eagles held Kettle Moraine to only 45 points. Evan Luchetti continued his hot streak with 20 points and Henry Thome added 11.

It was a great way to finish 2025!!
