It was a long 2.5 days at the IL Y State Swimming Championships (and an even longer drive home for those that traveled last night 🙃) but we’re so happy to say that your Warren County YMCA Waterbugs are:

10U Girls Small Team State Champs
10U Boys Small Team State Champs
12U Girls Small Team State Champs
14U Boys Small Team State Champs
Girls Overall Small Team State Champs
Boys Overall Small Team State Champs
Combined Overall Small Team State Champs

It was a great weekend with lots of fast swims and Top 10 Finishes (more on that coming soon)! We love adding decoration to the Y pool wall! Way to swim, Waterbugs! Congratulations!

Our coaches are on their way to the State Championship Meet as we speak. No, they aren’t only excited that these 6 months are about over 😉 but, MORE excited to see all the hard work the kiddos have put into this season pay off in the pool these next few days. They are ready to yell, cheer, dance, and celebrate everyone this weekend. Let’s have fun and swim fast!

He’s gonna kill me for this…but he took the time to answer the questions so we have to recognize him! It’s Mr. Joe!

From officiating at meets to being an unofficial coach when we need some extra coverage on the pool deck, Joe does it all! A Waterbug alum himself, he’s now an awesome Swim Dad! Thanks for participating in the Parent/Coach relay at our invites! We hope you have a great weekend!

Our last state swimmer is Ms Annisten

Annisten is taking all her events to state in her first trip with individual races. She has what seems like an endless reservoir of energy and is easily one of the hardest workers on the team. We’re so excited to see what you do, Annisten, swim so fast!

Adding to the roster is Isaac

Isaac is a first year Waterbug and will be making his State Meet debut this weekend. He wanted to raise his coaches’ blood pressure and wait until districts and last chance meet to qualify but he got individual cuts on top of his relays. Can’t wait to watch what you do this weekend, Isaac, swim fast!

State qualifier Riley

Riley may be a whole foot shorter than his competitors when he steps up on the block but he’s just as speedy. (We’d still take a growth spurt though, pretty please.) He has a ROUGH order of events for the weekend and will have no problems falling asleep each night but we’re excited to see what he does in his first year as a “big kid.” Stay determined, Riley, and good luck!

Our 3x Illini District Champ. She figured out how to MOVE at districts and her coaches are looking forward to seeing her carry that momentum into state. Carly never fails to tell you how much she loves you…19487 times a practice. More dance parties before races this weekend, Ms Carly, good luck!

Meet Bryce

Bryce was out with some injuries in the first half of the season but he sure battled back to drop some serious time the last handful of meets, qualify in every event in his age group, and crush his goal times. Keep up the strong work, Bryce, and good luck at state.
